Cambridge Swimmers Fall to Wesleyan and West Forsyth Thursday, Jan. 15th

On Thursday, January 15th, Cambridge traveled to Wesleyan to take on the home team and West Forsyth. With North Georgia Regional Championships on the horizon, the team took some event risks and changed up some relays, some of which paid off and some of which opened up new state meet possibilities.

Boys' Team Recap
In the first event of the day, the boys' started off strong with the medley relay. The A-relay (Jake Todd, Kyle Daniel, Austin Daniel, Conor Wesolowski) swam a new best time of 1:49.73 to improve their state seed placing and finish 3rd in the event. The B-relay team (Erek Humm, Jason Yang, Matt Hogan, Jason Hink) finished not far behind in 5th, followed by the C-relay (Sean McGinty, David Le, Connor Christiansen, Jared Keim) in 8th place. 

In the 200-freestyle, Noah Sannes finished in 7th overall, Nick Mirchandani finished in 8th and Cole Pieroni came in 9th with a new personal best time. 

In the 200-individual medley, Jake Todd finished in 4th and Tony Guerra finished in 8th overall. 

In the 50-freestyle, Conor Wesolowski finished in 5th, followed by Jared Keim in 8th, Sebastian Lara in 11th, Nick Mirchandani in 16th, Noah Sannes in 18th, David Le in 25th and Nicky Northen in 26th

In the dive event, Simon Finlayson once again took first place out of five divers. The 6-dive sequence gave Finlayson a chance to work on some of his dives for region championships and state. Teammate Jack Braglia took 5th overall with a new top score for the season. 

In the 100-butterfly, Matt Hogan took 5th, followed by teammate Jason Yang in 6th, and Kyle Daniel in 7th

In the 100-freestyle, Jason Hink took 5th, followed by Sebastian Lara in 10th, and Connor Christiansen in 12th

In the 500-freestyle, Connor Christiansen took 6th overall, followed by Cole Pieroni in 8th

In the 200-freestyle relay, the A-relay (Austin Daniel, Conor Wesolowski, Matt Hogan, Jake Todd) took third place overall, the B-relay (Erek Humm, Sean McGinty, Jared Keim, Jason Hink) finished 5th overall, followed by the C-relay (Nick Mirchandani, Tony Guerra, Connor Fleming, Sebastian Lara) in 7th

In the 100-backstroke, Erek Humm took 1st place, followed by teammate Sean McGinty in 4th place. 

In the 100-breaststroke, Austin Daniel took 3rd with a time of 1:05.36, which qualifies him for state. Daniel is now qualified in every individual event for state. Kyle Daniel took 7th, and Jason Yang took 8th

In the last event of the evening, the boys' 400-freestyle relay, the A-relay (Austin Daniel, Matt Hogan, Conor Weslowski, Jake Todd) took 3rd overall. The B-relay (Erek Humm, Sebastian Lara, Sean McGinty, Jason Hink) took 6th, and the C-relay (Noah Sannes, Tony Guerra, Jared Keim, Connor Christiansen) took 7th

Girls' Team Recap
In the first event of the day, the girls' team also had a strong showing. The A-relay (Nicole Detjen, Katie Fishman, Caley Cramer, Lauren Holliday) finished in 2nd overall. The B-relay (Katie Durden, Sydney Swenton, Angela Ho, Alex Newcomer) finished 5th

In the 200-freestyle, Darby Goodyear finished in 5th overall, followed by teammate Sydney Anderson in 7th and Ella McIlvain in 8th

In the 200-individual medley, Simona Cofrancesco finished in 2nd overall, followed by teammate Angela Ho in 8th and Anna Salvadori in 9th

In the 50-freestyle,  Lauren Holliday took 6th, Ashley Dale Henslee took 7th, Paula Morales took 8th, Sydney Swenton took 9th, Isabella Empoliti took 10th, Katie Fishman took 11th, Sarah Moore took 18th, Lindsey Robinson took 20th, Sophia LaMarca took 21st, Amanda Seibert took 22nd, Julia Dinardo took 27th, Ella McIlvain took 29th, and Sydney Anderson took 31st out of 39 entries. 

In the girls' diving event, Maddie Chaloux was also given the opportunity to work on some state dives in a short 6-dive sequence. Her performance earned her fourth place among all Wesleyan divers. 

In the 100-butterfly, Caley Cramer took 3rd overall. Teammate Amanda Seibert took 7th, followed by Anna Salvadori in 8th

In the 100-freestyle, Katie Durden took 6th with a new individual best time of 1:00.82, followed by Paula Morales in 8th,  and Sophia LaMarca in 10th

In the 500-freestyle, Simona Cofrancesco took first place with a new season best time of 5:53.15.  Julia Dinardo took 6th place. 

In the 200-freestyle relay, the A-relay (Caley Cramer, Katie Durden, Lauren Holliday, Alex Newcomer) took 2nd overall with a new best time and a new school record. The C-relay took 5th

In the 100-backstroke, Nicole Detjen took 3rd, Darby Goodyear took 4th, and Isabella Empoliti took 6th

In the 100-breaststroke, Katie Fishman took 4th, Lindsey Robinson took 6th, and Sarah Moore took 8th

In the 400-freestyle relay, the B-relay (Angela Ho, Lauren Holliday, Sydney Swenton, Nicole Detjen) took 4th, the C-relay (Anna Salvadori, Katie Fishman, Sarah Moore, Paula Morales) took 5th

North Georgia Region Preview

The team is focusing their efforts and strength for the weekend's competition at Dalton in hopes of improving their overall placing from last year. In addition, the team is focusing on putting together their best relay combinations to prepare for the state competition in February.

Diving and the preliminary round of the 500-freestyle for North Georgia Regional Championships will be held on Friday evening, Jan. 16th. The swimming preliminary and final rounds will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17th.
