Lady Bears Varsity Softball Finish 2nd in Region Tournament, Move on to State Playoffs

Cambridge Lady Bears Softball finished Region play last week finishing 2nd in the Regional Championship and earning a spot to compete in the State Play-offs. 

In a double header against Pope on Wednesday, October 3rd, Cambridge lost 4-1 and 9-7 resulting in clinching Regional Runner-up behind Pope.  The Lady Bears will move to the first round of the State Playoffs hosting Allatoona High School for a double header on Wednesday October 10th at 5:00 and if needed Thursday October 11th at 6:00 (best out of 3).  

In the first Championship game, the Lady Bears fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 4-1 loss to Pope. Lauren Cooper was in the pitcher's circle for Cambridge allowing seven hits and four runs over six innings, striking out one. Nikki TanguayHaley BrownLivi PayneGabby Givers, and Ariel Birnbaum all had one hit to lead the Bears.

The Bears bats were strong in the second game against Pope, but it wasn't enough as they fell 9-7.  In the second inning, Pope got their offense started scoring one run. In the bottom of the third inning, the Bears tied things up at six. Audrey Smith singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs. Pope pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning.

The Bears notched three runs in the third inning, led by Haley Brown and Smith, all knocking in runs in the inning.  Jessie Smith was in the pitcher's circle for the Bears. She allowed eight hits and six runs over two and a third innings, striking out one and walking one. Sydney Herbold threw four and two-thirds innings in relief giving up only 2 earned runs and 3 hits. The Bears tallied two home runs on the day. Chooch Carroll went deep in the second inning and Audrey Smith put one out in the second inning. The Bears collected 11 hits as Haley BrownLivi Payne, and Audrey Smith each racked up multiple hits. Haley Brown went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bears.
