Chattahoochee Defeats Resilient Lady Bears Varsity Softball, 7-5 on Monday, Sept. 17th

Despite a 6-run deficit in the second inning, the Lady Bears Varsity Softball team almost came all the way back, eventually falling 7-5 to Chattahoochee at home Monday September 17th sporting pink jerseys in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Bears scored four runs in the failed comeback on a single by Audrey Smith in the second, a groundout by Ariel Birnbaum in the sixth, a single by Livi Payne in the sixth, and a home run by Smith in the seventh.

The Bears fell behind early in the loss with Chattahoochee hitting a home run in the first inning and racking up six runs in the second inning with two singles, and a double.  The Bears were able to hold Chattahoochee scoreless for the last 5 innings and came back with 8 hits and scoring 5 runs but not enough to beat Chattahoochee.  

Audrey Smith and Livi Payne all had multiple hits for the Bears with Smith leading the team with three hits in four at bats, including a double, a homerun in the 7th inning, and 2 RBIs. Ariel Birnbaum, Haley Brown, and Luci Allen all collected a hit for the Bears.

Lauren Cooper took the loss. She surrendered seven runs on nine hits over seven innings, striking out eight.  

The loss drops Cambridge into 3rd place in the division with 3 games left before the playoffs with a 7-4 Division record.
