Lady Bears Varsity Softball Wins 7AAAAAA Region Championship

Cambridge ends the regular season with an 11-0 win over Johns Creek (Thurs, Sept. 29)

Bears get on top in the bottom of the first with 4 runs scored off of hits by Jensen Cheshire, Taylor Greene, Keara Napoli, Courtney Campbell and Chooch Carroll! Napoli with four strikeouts and defensive plays by Heather Kipniss, Jensen Cheshire, and Courtney Campbell the Gladiators are held scoreless in 1st and 2nd innings. Bottom of two the Bears score another three runs off Becca Cleypool's single, a couple of walks and a double for Keara Napoli and another single for Courtney Campbell.  Bears lead it 7-0. Top of three Pitcher Napoli gives up one hit but strikes out three still no runs on the board for the Gladiators.  Bottom of the 3rd Freshman, Chooch Carroll with her 7th Home Run on the season puts Bears up 8-0.  Abigail Wilson, Jensen Cheshire, and Becca Cleypool each hitting singles Bears up 10-0.  Bears in the bottom of 4 with another single for Abigail Wilson, Courtney Campbell, and Heather Kipniss.  Bears take the win by a run rule 11-0.

CAMBRIDGE BEARS HUNGRY FOR A THIRD REGION TITLE AND WIN IT IN A DOUBLE HEADER AGAINST THE POPE GREYHOUNDS! (Wed, Oct. 5)

Game 1: 
In game 1 of a three game series the Bears and the Greyhounds remained scoreless through the first three innings.  In the bottom of the 4th Freshman, Chooch Carroll hits a double and Senior Abigail Wilson also hits a double to bring in freshman courtesy runner, Gabi Givers and Bears up 1-0.  In the bottom of the 5th the Greyhounds walk Keara Napoli and Taylor Greene probably not the best idea with Chooch Carroll up next who hits a double and brings in Greene and Napoli!  With a very hot bat Abigail Wilson with her second double in the game and again brings in Gabi Givers to score and Bears lead it 4-0!   Top of the 6th the Greyhounds just couldn't get any offense going with a double play by Napoli and Courtney Campbell and a pop up fly to Lindsey Smith the Bears go into the bottom of the 6th still leading 4-0.  Bottom of the 6th Senior, Becca Cleypool with a nice double and Junior, Jensen Cheshire gets hit by a pitch and takes first.  Senior Mariah Kubik lays down the bunt and with errors on the pitcher Bears score Cleypool and Cheshire and Mariah reaches third.  Walks again for Napoli and Greene and a sacrifice fly for Senior, Courtney Campbell and Kubik scores, Bears up 7-0.   Bears need to hold the Greyhounds in the top of 7 and do that by a ground out to Smith at third to Campbell at first, a pop up to Jensen Cheshire and a ground out to first baseman, Campbell the game ends with a final of 7-0!
 

Game 2: 
Bears and the Greyhounds take a 30-minute break and get the second game of the series going, Bears hoping to finish this series and not have to play a 3rd game on Thursday!  1st inning no score, top of the 2nd  Chooch Carroll is walked and courtesy runner Gabi Givers comes in for Carroll.  Givers steals second and Abigail Wilson hits a single, Givers advances to 3rd. Lindsey Smith gets on base due to an error and Givers scores! Jensen Cheshire hits a single and Wilson scores, Mariah Kubik hits a double and Smith and Cheshire score, Bears lead it 4-0! Great defensive plays in the bottom of the 2nd for Taylor Greene at short and a double play from pitcher Napoli to Greene at 2nd to Campbell at 1st for a double play! Top of the 3rd a single for Napoli and Campbell and a double for Wilson who brings in Napoli to score! Bears up 5-0.  Bottom of the 3rd the Greyhounds bounce back with hits for the first two batters, getting to 2nd and 3rd on a passed ball.  An error by the pitcher the Greyhounds score and batters advance. Greyhounds will score again on a passed ball and next 2 batters each hitting a single and an error made in the outfield the Greyhounds score again. Another error and a hit the Greyhounds with another run. A Greyhound hit by a pitch gets on base brings in another run for the Greyhounds and they will get out of the inning with a strikeout and take the lead 6-5 .  The Bears never giving up and come back to tie it up in the top of the 5th with a double for Keara Napoli and a single for Chooch Carroll, Napoli will tip up! Abigail Wilson with another double for the night moves courtesy runner to third. But Bears couldn't get her home.  Game is tied 6-6.  Bottom of the 5th the Greyhounds with two hits and a walk they will take the lead 7-6. But in the top of the 6th Senior Becca Cleypool hits a HOME RUN and ties this game up 7-7!! Bottom of the 6th Napoli and the defense fighting back with a quick 3 up 3 down and we go into the 7th, neither team will score and this game goes into ITB.   Bear will have a Junior, Kaili Hart courtesy runner on 2nd, Becca Cleypool with a bunt and Hart scores on an error by the pitcher leaving Claypool safe at 1st. Jensen Cheshire lays down a sacrifice bunt and Cleypool moves to 2nd.  Taylor Greene hits a double and Cleypool scores, Keara Napoli hits a single and Taylor scores!! Bears will lead it 10-7. In the bottom of the 8th Napoli walks the first batter and the next batter pops up for an out to Jensen Cheshire.  Next batter for the Greyhounds flies out to center fielder and runner goes home and will score.  The Bears with 2 outs get the final out with a ground out to 1st baseman Courtney Campbell the BEARS WIN THE GAME AND THE REGION CHAMPIONSHIP with a final score 10-8!!!!!

Bears will start their first round to the State Finals on Wednesday, October 12th with a double header against Douglas County!
