Lady Bears Softball Wins Region Championship, Advance in GHSA State Tournament

The Cambridge Lady Bears Varsity Softball Team successfully defended their 2014 Region Championship in 2015 by defeating Dalton on the Catamounts home field Friday October 9th.

The Bears opened the tournament with a victory over Creekview by a 3-1 score.  The Bears then had a wakeup call with a 0-4 loss on their home field to Dalton.

The Bears entered the Catamounts home field Friday night October 9th in front of 100 hostile fans.  The Bears proceeded to take a 4-0 lead and hold off a scrappy Dalton Team for a 4-3 victory.  The second game had equal excitement and intensity as the game went scoreless into the sixth inning until the Bears scored the go-ahead run on a two out double over the center fielders head.

The Bears retired three Catamounts in the top of the 7th to earn the 1-0 victory and their second straight Region 7AAAAA championship.

The Bears then entered the GHSA State Tournament and defeated SW Dekalb (13-0, 15-0) in the round of 32 on Wednesday, October 14th and have moved on to face Jones County in the round of 16, Wednesday, October 21st.

The Lady Bears went undefeated during region play going a perfect 12-0 outsoring their opponents 132-1.  The Lady Bears had lost 3 starters from last years team but the team just reloaded and took care for business for the second year in a row.

The Lady Bears finished region play with a combined .481 batting average with all nine starters hitting above .441.  The team stole 14 bases, and had a slugging percentage of .668.

The pitching staff was lead by Keara Napoli, with underclassmen Genevieve Dumas and Anna Allen getting in some innings to gain experience for the Bears.  The staff gave up no earned runs, notched 110 strikeouts, and held opponents to an .090 batting average.
