Varsity Boys Tennis Wins 7AAAAA Region Tournament

Varsity Boys Tennis Wins 7AAAAA Region Tournament

10 players, 8 hours, 3 matches and 1 boys team Region Tennis title.

After a long Tuesday April 14th of tennis and at the conclusion of their third team match of the day, the Cambridge Bears Boys' Varsity team won their first regional title!!!

Scheduled to be a two day regional playoff, the Bears agreed to do it all in one day faced with impending rain for the rest of this week!

First two matches were Riverwood and North Springs which Cambridge had met before and won once again.

The finals match was against an also unbeaten #1 seeded River Ridge that Cambridge had not faced before.  They were on the other side of the region and had locked up their side of the region fairly easily.

After a long day and at 6:15PM Tuesday evening, the two faced off.  Carson Harrell (Junior) battled it out at Line #1 Singles.  Joey Ladaga (Freshman) was battling in the 2nd set after winning the 1st set in a very tight tie break!

Drew Fruehauf (Sophomore) at #3 singles dispensed his opponent with tight consistent ground strokes and a lot of patience!!!  He was the team's first win!

David Ashcom and Brenner Lapid (Seniors) at line #2 doubles won their first set and battled to win the match in a grueling 2nd set tie break!  They were the team's 2nd win!

#1 Doubles Zac Hirschler and Kez Fitzgerald (Juniors) ran up against a team that loved to lob the ball.  These boys who have been working on closing the net all season found themselves having to rethink their strategy after dropping the first set.  They were able to do so and went on to win the 2nd and 3rd sets clinching the title for the team!

Congrats to Coach Feldman and the entire team.  Coach had this to say about the Region title win "I'm really proud of the boys, they played to exhaustion and pulled off the championship".

Bears will enter the state tournament as a top seed and likely play their first match at home sometime during the week of April 20th.

GO BEARS!
