Boys Varsity Soccer Wins 3-2 Over Centennial, Friday, February 26th

Friday, February 26-Alpharetta, Georgia

Cambridge Bears began Region play at Centennial High School, Friday night 8 PM.

In cooler temperatures and a light mist in the air the Bears got off to a strong start. Displaying dominance in possession the Bears finished off two chances in the opening 15 minutes.

About midway through the first half, against the flow of play, Centennial took advantage of a Bear's turnover in the midfield third, and immediately countered through their center forward getting one back. The remainder of the first half felt cagey as the Bears worked hard to reestablish control of the match.

Cambridge regrouped at halftime and started the second half controlling the energy with passing magic. Unfortunately, as the half wore on, Cambridge were unable to put the game to bed with a third goal.

Centennial found an equalizer late in the second half. Again, through their center forward.

The Bears responded by putting the pressure on, creating goal scoring chances, but still could not come up with a game winner. The second half would end at 2-2.

After playing two nervy 10 minute periods in OT the score remained 2-2. Senior Goalkeeper Christian Lopez kept his team in the match coming up with a couple key saves. On to penalties the teams would go.

Carter Johnson for the Bears would kick first calmly converting. Junior Daniel Bojcic stepped up big saving Centennial's first kick taken. After four rounds of kicks taken the score was Bears 3, Centennial 2.

TrustWorkz Man Of The Match, Senior Jeffrey Rael stepped up to take the Bear's final kick. Converting his penalty Rael and his team gratefully celebrated a hard fought outcome.

With their first region win at foot Cambridge will host Chattahoochee on Tuesday evening, March 2nd at 8:00pm for the second round of region play.
