Cambridge Boys Soccer Honors Key Players for 2019-20 Season

Cambridge Boys Soccer Honors Key Players for 2019-20 Season

Like many events, the annual Cambridge Boys Soccer Banquet was cancelled due to Covid-19. However, that has not stopped the appreciation we have for our players and our desire to recognize outstanding achievements.

Varsity Awards as chosen by Coach Wallace and Coach McGlamery:

Brett Highlander: The Bear Award goes to a player who emphasizes the values and attitudes of Cambridge soccer. This
year, Brett modeled hard work each and every practice and match. His quiet demeanor wasn't able to hide his intense
competitiveness and his desire to give his best in all situations. He did absolutely everything the coaches asked of him
and by playing wherever we needed him constantly put the team's success ahead of his own preferences. He proved to
be an impact player wherever he wound up on the field and someone that the coaches and the team could always
depend on.

Lucas Pegorer: The Coach's Award goes to a player who becomes an extension of the coaching staff on and off the field.
From the moment last season ended, Lucas began to think about the 2020 season. He was not just content to push
himself to prepare, but challenged other players to join him in off-season workouts and practices. When the season
began, Lucas always led by example, giving maximum effort in practices and becoming a vocal leader during practices
and matches. Additionally, he was a fantastic mentor and leader to the younger players, always demonstrating an
inclusive attitude and a willingness to help and support his teammates. And oh yeah, he also scored a lot of goals!

Jeffrey Rael: It seems a little odd to award the Best Defensive Player to one of the most technically skilled players on the
team, but as much as Jeffrey did for us offensively, he proved to be a tenacious ball-winner and defender all over the
field and an anchor for our talented but young defensive line. Jeffrey has a gift for seeing the field and anticipating play
and always seemed to be around the ball and able to disrupt the opponents play. Despite those of us who know Jeff for
his lovable and cuddly personality off the field, he played with an edge on the field that was often able to light a spark in
his teammates.

Reece Degen: A dual winner of the Best Offensive Player and Most Valuable Player award, Reece was a player whose
talent, drive, and charisma allowed us to compete in every game. It was impossible to watch a match this year and not
notice Reece's impact. His combination of speed, power, and tenacity made him our target on virtually every attack,
and his ability to unbalance opposing defenses and create scoring opportunities stretched the field for us and relieved a
great deal of pressure on our defenders. Additionally, his vocal leadership and intensity during matches were invaluable
for our young team, and his respect for the coaches, joyful attitude, and sense of humor during practices were constant
reminders of how hard work doesn't have to get in the way of how much fun this game can be.

JV Awards as chosen by Coach Franco and Coach Neal:

Stone Wheeler: Stone is awarded the Bear Award for being the type of kid that every coach wants to have. He is
always respectful and willing to do what is in the team's best interest. He showed progress daily on the field. Stone is a
dedicated and hard-working player that is 100% committed to our philosophy.

Nico Espinel: Nico is the winner of the Coach's Award for always doing the right thing. In the classroom he's a model
student and on the field a quiet leader. He leads by example and raises everyone's level of play. He strives to do his
best and learn. A sponge for understanding the Cambridge way of play and values.

Tate Moeller and Chris Yones: These two players are co-winners of the Best Defensive Player Award.

Tate Moeller did not allow a goal this season. Enough said. When Tate wants to control the box, he does so. Very
strong mentality with a no-die attitude. Tate was a player who stepped up and gained in maturity and confidence as the
season went on and became a reliable and solid presence for us in the net.
I'm not sure we're much good this year if we didn't have Chris Yones manning the back line for us. Chris can always be
found saving our behinds with his aggressive type of play. He possesses a great attitude and is a joy to have on your
team. He is a stand-out young man who played with a lot of heart and passion. A player for Cambridge in the future for sure.

 Tate                                                        Chris

Camilo Rodriguez: Camilo is the winner of the Best Offensive Player award and probably our most talented player this
year. He expects a lot out of his play and always expects to win. He dazzled all of us so many times this year with his
ability to break free and score. He displays a love and passion for the game with bags of dedication to his team. A good
player we could always depend on.

Daniel Bojcic
: Winner of the Most Valuable Player award, this kid is something else. Put him wherever you want to put
him and what you're getting in return is someone that will beat anyone on the field hands down in terms of effort and
determination. A joy to coach, he exhibits constant desire, passion, dedication, and spirit. He is an example and a
leader to his teammates and has a very bright future ahead of him.

Go Bears!
