Bears Boys Soccer Defeats Allatoona 2-1; Advance to Sweet 16 for 4th Straight Year

Friday, April 26th – The Bears traveled to Allatoona, Friday, April 26th, to face a scrappy, number 2 seed, squad at home.  It was a great night for a soccer match, temperature in the low 70s and it was win or go home for both squads.

It was back and forth for the first 10 minutes of the match and then Cambridge settled in and controlled the ball for most of the first half, having a number of quality chances to score and with the host team only having one quality opportunity, the halftime score was 0-0.

The second half opened with Cambridge controlling the tempo and putting a tremendous amount of pressure on the host in the final 3rd, then at the 30th minute in the 2nd half, off a long rebound, Nico found the back of the net from 30 yards out with a missile of a strike; Cambridge 1-0.  The hosts were deflated but scored in the 23rd minute to level the match at 1-1.

The next 18 minutes were frenetic, Cambridge had two match saving goal lines saves, one each from Ethan and Trey, and then in the last 5 minutes of regulation Cambridge had a number of quality opportunities from through balls, dead balls and set pieces but could not find the back of the net.  The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Next was a 15 minute, no golden goal, period which Cambridge dominated with several quality chances but again could not find the back of the net.  The PKs were won by Cambridge 2-1 to advance to the sweet 16.  The picture is the squad and coaches circling up before the PKs.

Next up for Cambridge, is a home match, against Dacula Thursday May 2nd  at 7:00pm.
