Cambridge Boys Soccer Shut Out 1-0 by Chattahoochee in First Region Match, Tuesday, March 5th

The Bears Varsity Boys soccer team hosted Chattahoochee in their first Region 7 AAAAAA match of the year, Tuesday, March 5th.

Last year the squads split two very intense and high profile matches, Cambridge won the match to determine the Region Championship and Chattahoochee won the match to determine the State Champion.  Last year three (Alpharetta, Cambridge and Chattahoochee) of the final four squads in the class AAAAAA were from our region, Region 7. This year five (Chattahoochee, Pope, Northview, Cambridge and Alpharetta) of the top 10 schools ranked by Eurosport in class AAAAAA are currently from Region 7, the best soccer region in the state top to bottom, year in and year out.

The match played out as billed, it was a slugfest between two heavy weights.  Chattahoochee played more direct while Cambridge settled in to their possession style of play.  Neither team had many quality chances in the first or second half and the score was knotted 0-0 at half time and the squads continued to battle through out the second half until Chattahoochee found the back of the net with less than 3 minutes to play in the match.

Cambridge moved some players around and put pressure on Chattahoochee for the balance of the match, but the opponent "parked the bus" and weathered the pressure.  Final score was Chattahoochee 1, Cambridge 0.

Next up for the Bears is a region match, away at Centennial High School, Friday March 8th.
