Cambridge Boys Soccer Fall 2-1 to Chattahoochee in State Championship Match, Saturday, May 12th

The Mighty Men of Cambridge entered the match confident, but down a starter who earned a straight card in the last match, against the defending AAAAAA State Champions Chattahoochee.

The match time temperature was in the low 90s and the temperature on the pitch reached well above 130 degrees. The teams battled to a 0-0 score at halftime with a lot of back and forth play.  The 2nd half started out the same way with some up and down play and the heat taking a toll on both teams.

Near the 70th minute Cambridge gave the ball away multiple times in their half and Chattahoochee finally found the back of the net in the 71st minute, Chattahoochee 1 Cambridge 0.  Cambridge changed formations and moved to 3 (in the back), 4 – 3 and began to put more offensive pressure on Chattahoochee, then in the 79th minute Ryan Walker found the back of the net over the goalie who had come off his line, Cambridge 1 Chattahoochee 1, and the that how regulation ended.

The teams moved to overtime with two 5 minute periods (not a golden goal). Both teams continued to press offensively and Chattahoochee earned a corner in the 4th minute of the 1st period, which they converted, Chattahoochee 2 Cambridge 1.  The second overtime period was back and forth with Cambridge having more opportunities in front of the net but no shot on frame... final score Chattahoochee 2 Cambridge 1.

The Bears performed well this season with a number of first's and the best season in program history. 19-2-0.
