Cambridge Boys Soccer Advances to GHSA Final 4 with Win over Greenbrier, Saturday, May 5th

Cambridge Boys Soccer Advances to GHSA Final 4 with Win over Greenbrier, Saturday, May 5th

The Bears advance to the Final 4 in the State Playoffs with a 5-0 win over Greenbrier, the #1 seed from Region 3 on Saturday, May 5th.

The match opened with physical back and forth play early and lack of quality chances on goal for either team. As Greenbrier came into the match having outscored their opponents 14-2, in two matches, they were frustrated by the Bears organized defense which allowed them few opportunities for shots on goal.  The scoring opened in the 21st minute when John Crawley was assisted by Jarvin Ramirez, for a goal; Cambridge 1 Greenbrier 0.  Then two minutes later John Barton assisted Omar Dhrif who passed the ball into the net, Cambridge 2 Greenbrier 0.

The Bears possession style of play began to wear down the visitors as they were forced to run and run without the ball.  The half ended with the Bears up 2-0 and 40 minutes from moving on to the Final Four.

The second half opened with the visitors chasing the match and providing more space in the middle of the pitch. At the 48 minute mark, John Barton took the ball up the right side, cut in and then found the back of the net, far post; Cambridge 3 Greenbrier 0.  Then in the 54th minute Jack Tindle earned a PK and Jarvin Ramirez stepped up buried the and ball in the back of the net under the out-stretched goalie, Cambridge 4 Greenbrier 0.  Less than a minute later Cambridge scored the final score of the match when Sid Marupudi assisted John Crawley on his second goal of the match, Cambridge 5 Greenbrier 0.

With this win, the Bears move on to the Final Four and host a tough Gainesville squad next Tuesday, May 8 at Home.  As evidence of the strength in Region 7, three of the Final Four teams are from Region 7 (Cambridge, Chattahoochee and Alpharetta). Chattahoochee will host Alpharetta and Cambridge will host Gainesville at home for a spot in the State Championship match.

Come out on Tuesday, May 8 at CtHS Stadium to support the Bears in their quest for a State Championship!
