Cambridge Boys Soccer Drops Region Game to Alpharetta, Friday, March 16th

On Friday March 16, Cambridge welcomed Alpharetta into the Bear Den for a big Region 7 match.

Cambridge opened the scoring in the 10th minute on a counter attack when John Crawley hit Reece Degan who found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.  Two minutes later, a questionable goal was awarded to Alpharetta as the result of a direct kick which bounced off the bottom edge of the cross bar but not over the end line to tie the match at 1-1.  The Bears scored again in the 28th minute when Jarvin Ramirez scored off an assist from Reece Degan on a breakaway.  The 1st half ended with Cambridge 2 and Alpharetta 1.

Cambridge continued to control the match throughout the 2nd half employing a possession style of play.  In the 28th minute John Crawley found the back of the net off an assist from Trey Rielly... Cambridge 3 Alpharetta 1.  The Bears continued to control the match until the 33rd minute when Goalkeeper Nic Sides was ejected with a straight red card for making contact with the center forward of Alpharetta. Alpharetta then scored off a penalty kick with 7 minutes remaining in the second half, Cambridge 3 Alpharetta 2

The Bears then were forced to play one man down as a result of the red card and continued to battle, but gave up an equalizer goal with just 2 minutes remaining in the second half. After a 30 minute delay due to the CHS Stadium lights turning off, the teams played two scoreless overtime periods and were forced to penalty kicks.   The Bears lost the match in penalty kicks (PKs 6-5) resulting in the final score Alpharetta 4, Cambridge 3.

The March 20 Cherokee match was cancelled due to wet field conditions. Next up for the Bears is a home match against region 7 foe Northview HS.  Come out to support the Bears!
