The Cambridge Boys soccer team's record-setting season came to an end Saturday afternoon, May 6th, when they fell to Dalton 4-1 at Harmon stadium in Dalton during an Elite 8 match up. 

The state's #1 team, who is also ranked #2 nationally, showed why they are 20-1 on the season by scoring early, just 10 minutes into the game.  They then scored another 3 goals within a 20 minute span to take a 4-0 lead into halftime.

The Bears seemed to regroup in the locker room and came out in the second half controlling the game.  They scored their only goal on the day when John Crawley sent an amazing pass into the box, that must have looked like big piece of cake, to Omar Dhrif who could have walked it into the net for the score. 

After the game, the Seniors were visibly sad with the realization that their High School soccer careers had come to an end. "These Seniors have left the program with quite a legacy", noted Bears soccer alumni Matt Lakatos, who was in attendance at the game on the sideline. The Senior class leaves having posted the most wins of any graduating class; with 43 wins, 3 playoff appearances and 2 Elite 8 appearances that earned them two top 10 state final rankings. They also established a win streak record of 6 wins in a row this year over the previous record of 4 wins in a row. 

Matt, who experienced a final 8 heartbreaker himself last season, noted his disappointment in the outcome.  "I know how these guys feel.  It's a very empty feeling.  They just need to listen to their playlist on the way home and realize they have much to be proud of.  They have accomplished so much."   

After the game Coach Wallace stated  "it's frustrating that the season comes down to 20 minutes. We just kinda got lost for 20 minutes.  I'm really proud of our guys, we won that second half 1-0 and it could have been worse however they kept fighting until the clock stopped.  I'm so proud of their character, I'm proud of the way they get to walk off this field and it's always hard for a last game because I'm going to miss the Seniors a lot" said Wallace. "We've established a brand and if we come back here next year we are going to beat 'em."

The Bears return 8 starters next year which shows a lot of promise for the continued success of the program which has established themselves as one of the state's top soccer teams.
