Bears Claw Their Way Past Johns Creek in Big 2-1 Region Win, Friday, March 24th

The Cambridge Bears Boys Soccer team played against 5th State Ranked Johns Creek Gladiators Friday night, March 24th in Johns Creek.

This was a must win game for the Bears, and they proved their prowess with a 2-1 victory.

With 16 minutes left in the first half, John Crawley got the Bears on the board first.  He buried his shot into the back of the net on a beautiful through ball from Josh Winnett for the assist, his 5th of the year.   After Johns Creek got the equalizer with 12 minutes left in the game, the Bears went to work.  With just under 7 minutes left in the game, Austin Carranza hit a hot cross into the box that Jabar Obeid one touched into the net for the game winner.  This was Obeid's 10th goal of the season and places him as the team scoring leader.

Coach Wallace said "That was a fantastic win tonight against a very good physical team.  It was great to see our team take a punch, and punch back."   A visibly excited Coach Wallace continued to say "often times with possession teams they can be kind of undone by physicality.  Not only did we play their game, we committed to winning 50-50 balls, we matched their physicality and while that's not our game; I think from a mental toughness standpoint it was fantastic to see. I'm prouder of our team after this game than I have been all year."

On his game winner, Jabar Obeid said "I heard Mrs. Mueller yell "chocolate milk! and it was the inspiration that motivated me to score."  Coach Wallace commented, "after Jabar flirted with a goal a few minutes earlier that just missed the lower 90, I was really happy to see him respond with the game winner."

Over the last 4 games the Bears are 3-0-1 and have posted wins against two 6A top 10 ranked teams and tied the 7A 2nd ranked State team. The Bears, who are in the middle of a long road trip , travel to region nemesis Northview Titans on Tuesday, the 28th at 8:00pm.

Go Bears!
