Bears Varsity Boys Soccer Defeat Alpharetta 2-1, Friday, March 17th

The Bears Boy's Soccer Team beat a very strong Alpharetta team 2-1, Friday night, March 17th.  The scoring was lead off by a beautiful header from Lucas LoPiccolo from a corner kick by Ethan Rose.  It was Lucas' 3rd header of the season.  With just 6 minutes left in the game, Josh Winnett hit a laser shot from 20 yards out to give the Bears the lead for good.

Assistant and head JV Coach Paul Supik was excited that the Bears got the region win on the road.  Paul said "we had good goalie play tonight and outside of the goal we gave up on a set piece with 12 seconds left in the first half, we held them scoreless from the field."

Coach Wallace said "sometimes you have to grind one out.  We ground one out tonight; I'm not sure we deserved it or not, but we won." Coach Wallace was extremely pleased with the back line and their strong physical play. Coach Wallace had told the team all week this was a "must win game for us, and I felt like we responded."

Senior Center Back, Diego Zarate added, "We just need to stay focused on who's next and stop worrying about the state playoffs".

The Bears who are now 2-2 in region play, had a good week tying the number two ranked 7A team in the state who was 9-0 and then beating a very strong Alpharetta team that was 6-1-1 coming into Friday nights contest.

They have another tough week next week when they face a strong 7A non conference opponent, Cherokee, Wednesday night, March 22nd at the Bear Den.  They face an even tougher region road test at the 5th state ranked Johns Creek Gladiators on Friday, March 24th.

Go Bears!
