Varsity Boys Soccer Close Out Regular Season with 2 Wins

Varsity Boys Soccer Close Out Regular Season with 2 Wins

Bears Varsity Soccer wrapped up the regular season with 2 wins, against region opponent Central Forsyth on Wednesday April 1, and non-region opponent Eagles Landing, on Friday, April 3rd.

The Bears finished their season strong (10-3-1 overall ... 5-1 region) and placed in the top four teams in the region to earn a play-in game.

On April 1st, Cambridge executed a near-perfect soccer Senior Night.  Perfect weather, a 3-0 win against Central Forsyth and recognition and photos after the game.

John Shayne with good ball skill kicked in the first goal. A goal shot by JD White missed slightly and was rebounded by Griffin Boone and then Ryan Pratt quickly closed the deal by sending it in to the net. JD White later scored on another attempt with a nice set-up pass from Brett Stephens accounting for the Bears' third goal.

Man of the Match recognition goes to the seniors, who played well against CFHS and all season, with outstanding, unselfish teamwork and solid skills.

Seniors:

#1-John Shayne, goalie and forward

#3-Garrett Shan, forward

#5-Clay Hammer, defender

#6-Griffin Boone, midfielder

#7-Tyler Lee, defender

#8-Zack Midulla, center back defender

#9-Nick Catt, midfielder

#13-Avery Spaulding, defender

#19- John Barnabei, defender.

On April 3rd, against Eagles Landing, John Shayne scored an early goal and then a throw-in by Clay Hammer to Brett Stephens for goal number 2 put the Bears ahead.

Effective passing, impenetrable defense, good double-teaming to get the ball by mid-fielders Diego Zarate and Lucas LoPiccolo, made for a good effort and a 3-0 win against the aggressive Eagles Landing team.

The Cambridge defense has not allowed a goal in their last 3 games, and only allowed 14 goals total in 14 regular season games.   The Bears go into the post-season with this effective, cohesive, dominant defense of seniors John Barnabei, Zack Midulla, Clay Hammer, Avery Spalding and Tyler Lee.

The Bears host Rome High School on Wed. April 15th.  With a previous loss to Rome (4-1), the Bears look to reverse that loss in order to move on to the playoffs.

With home field advantage, come out and cheer for your Cambridge Boys' Varsity soccer on Wed. April 15.
