Cambridge Boys Varsity Soccer Ties 6th Ranked Milton, Friday, Feb. 27th

The huge crowd who braved the cold to watch the cross-town competition, were not disappointed.   In a high-intensity game Friday night, Feb. 27th, the Cambridge Varsity Soccer team equaled Milton High School in a 0-0 final score.

Holding the Eagles to a 0-0 tie was a considerable accomplishment.  Head Coach Bryan Wallace was disappointed in the lack of Bears' scoring, but was quite pleased with the tie because Milton is ranked 6th in state in the challenging AAAAAA division.

Coach Wallace said player recognition for the game goes to the outstanding defensive line.  The defenders of Zack Midulla, John Barnabei, Clay Hammer, Avery Spaulding and Tyler Lee were stellar in stopping the dominant Milton from scoring.

Milton was able to keep the ball predominantly in Cambridge territory but the Bear defenders never let up their guard. Midulla anticipating the opponents every move; Barnabei hustling with speed and determination; Hammer with some perfectly executed slide tackles and passes; Spaulding frustrating the Eagles efforts to get near the goal; and Lee was in their face with some great one-on-one pressure.

In the last 5 minutes of the game, goalie Zack Evens fearlessly launched himself airborne sideways to stop the best goal attempt of the night by Milton, to keep them scoreless.

Coach Wallace felt his team played successfully by executing much of the shapes and strategy they had worked on during practice, especially during most of the second half, an improved level of play from their previous game.
