Varsity Boys Lacrosse Delivers Strong Offensive Performance in Win vs. Lakeside-Dekalb, Saturday, Mar. 7th

The Cambridge Boys Lacrosse team hosted the Lakeside-Dekalb Vikings on Saturday, March 7th in a lop-sided win as the home team delivered a strong offensive performance in an 18-2 win.

Face-off specialist, Charlie Cardullo secured the first of many face off wins which allowed the offense to quickly get into form.  Seniors Ian Oblen and Zach Shiffman paired together as Oblen's perfect pass was caught and delivered by Shiffman for the early 1-0 lead.  Minutes later, the Bears defense suffocated the Vikings causing a turnover leading to an efficient possession where Sophomore, Michael Bierne, collected his first varsity goal on a timely pass by Freshman Jack Marlow.  Senior Attackman, Jagger Bose, made several outstanding dodge moves and passes throughout the game including a pass to fellow Attackman, Chase DuMond, to increase the lead to 3-0.  Bose delivered another nice assist minutes later to Junior Attackman, Owen Palocsik, after the Vikings had cut the lead making it 4-1 Bears.  The Bears defense was suffocating throughout the game, including man down possession where Win Peebles caused a mid-field turnover as the quarter came to a close.

The second quarter started fast for the home team as Jagger Bose continued his highlight worthy game on a fireball shot to give the Bears a 6-1 lead.  Junior Attackman, Eli Bibler, fed a cutting Bose for a sweet assist and second straight score by the Senior Attacker.  Senior Midfielder, Joe DiPonzio, made a sweeping dodge from the goalie's left and delivered a left-handed shot bringing the lead to 8-1 on the next possession.  Sophomore Daniel Fazzari added another on a pass by Alex Prince continuing the scoring midway through the 2nd quarter.  Eli Bibler's heads up play on a deflection off the goalie led to his first goal of the season and extended the lead to 10-1 as the Bears remained in command with seven minutes to play in Q2.  Two more goals by Bibler, along with a lefty shot by Senior Alex Prince increased the margin to 13-1.  Junior Cole Gabriel added another leading to the halftime score of 14-1.

Offensive possessions were rare for the Vikings as the Bears offense moved the ball with speed and efficiency.  During several transition clears by the Vikings, the Bears front line caused turnovers leading to very few opportunities for the away team to add scores.   Junior Luke Ritter joined the list of scorers soon into the fourth quarter and then added a key loose ball grab after a Vikings turnover.   The final goals of the game for the Bears came on a timely pass by Bibler to Gabriel who closed the door quickly delivering the ball to the back of the net along with a second goal by Palocsik as time expired.

With the win, the Bears moved to 3-3 on the season and have three games on the schedule over the next week.

Next up, the team plays Tuesday, March 10th at 7:55pm at River Ridge.
