Coming back from Spring Break, the boys' Varsity lacrosse team played the Forsyth Central Bulldogs in a key area game, Tuesday, April 10th.
Showing little signs of rust, the Bears easily won against the undermanned Bulldogs 19-5. During this winning streak, the team has showed great poise across all areas of the field. In the win against Central, balanced scoring and efficient possessions were key in leading the Bears to an early first quarter 7-1 lead. Showing great teamwork, the Bears offense assisted on seven of the 19 goals. Winning at the point of attack with ground balls is a key to success. The Bears had a season high 51 ground balls for the game allowing its offense to have 65 possessions and 48 shots on goal. On this night, it was the attack line that combined to deliver strong ground ball effectiveness as they collected together 13 total ground balls as a unit.
Sophomore middie, Ian Dexter, continued his effective play of late with three goals and one assist. Senior attack, Jake Meyerholt, wreaked havoc on the Bulldog defense delivering four goals in the win. For the game, the attack line players delivered 10 of the 19 goals including two key goals to continue the game's momentum in the second half by Junior, Ryan Richardson, as well as a goal and assist by Senior Tyler Davis---who also secured four second half ground balls.
Showing great depth during this game, the Bears achieved scoring from many players including a key a fourth quarter goal from Sophomore defensive middie, Will Eales, and a highlight worthy aggressive shot and score by Junior, McGregor Rowland. On the night, points came from 12 different players. The defense again made life tough for its opponents holding the Bulldogs to only five goals for the game with two of those goals coming towards the end of the game.
With this win, the Bears move to 9-5 on the season with only one area loss. They'll host the #1 team in the state on Saturday, April 14th, as the Lambert Longhorns come to Cambridge Stadium.
