Against Roswell, the defense was called upon during most of the evening to help keep the Bears in the game.  Several first half penalties and turnovers led to timely goals by the Hornets who led 1-2 after the first period and built that lead to 2-6 at halftime. 

 

The Roswell lead could have been worse were it not for the strong performance by the defensive players.  "Ground Ball Machine" Nick Ganem continued his outstanding season long success of causing turnovers and getting loose balls as well as playing a pivotal role on wing play during face-offs.  The Senior defensive trio of Ryan Sadighian, Jack Lech and Will Covington battled Hornets offensive players all through the game leading to many off target shots on goal and several timely turnovers.  Senior Goalie Cole Winsness delivered a strong performance with 12 saves and an 89% success rate on defensive clears---aided by the capable stick skills of the long pole players who successfully pass and catch up the field while moving the ball to our offense. 

 

Of note, Sophomores Will Eales and Kaden Warner played key roles in the Defensive Middie spots while keeping the Roswell offense at bay.  For the game, Roswell held ball possession 64% of the time which proved to be a difficult challenge as the game ensued. 

 

Coming into the second half, the Bears needed a spark.  While playing faster and moving the ball more efficiently, the Bears clawed back into the contest led by Sr. Attack players, Austin Darnell and Jake Meyerholt and speedy Senior Midfielder, Zach Furr.  On one key play during the 3^rd quarter, Sr. Defenseman, Jack Lech streaked up field from a successful clear delivering a key assist to an open Attack player, Chase DuMond, leading to a Cambridge goal.   Late in the game, Sophomore, Ian Dexter, scored his second pivotal goal to pull the Bears within one, and a few minutes later Darnell tied the game with his second goal just minutes to go sending the game into OT.  The Hornets noted standout Face-Off specialist ensured successful possessions during each overtime period allowing Roswell to have many more shots on goal during extended play.  Despite this, the Bears defense held during two overtime periods, including key defensive plays by Lech and Sadhighian. 

 

While the Bears had their opportunity, the early deficit and fewer possessions during OT, led to the loss as Roswell pulled out the victory 9-8 with a winning shot early in the 3^rd OT.  

 

The Bears have a key area game against Chattahoochee on March 14^th followed by a road game at Marist on the 16^th.
