Boys Varsity Lacrosse Edges South Forsyth 13-12 Monday, March 5th

In an important game with Area rival South Forsyth, the Boys Varsity lacrosse team pulled out a close victory 13-12, Monday, March 5th.

Coming off a big victory last week against North Atlanta, the Bears traveled to South Forsyth for a key early season game where the War Eagles started fast to jump out to a two goal lead.  The Bear's offense began to settle in leading to its most productive half of lacrosse so far this season.

Senior Attack, Austin Darnell, led the charge early scoring the team's first two goals and changing the early momentum.  Darnell's 'hat trick' by end of the quarter sparked the offensive onslaught that continued.  With the score tied, the Bear's stout defense began to take over led by the defensive trio of Will Covington, Jack Lech and Ryan Sadighian.  Several early stops led to quick scores by the team and a solid 5-2 lead to take into the 2nd quarter.  The offensive fire remained throughout the first half including two 'rip' goals by midfielder, Ian Dexter, and major production from the Attack line.

The Bears have made an early season habit out of scoring momentum changing goals to end the first half.  Sophomore Zach Shiffman's brilliant assist to fellow sophomore, Chase DuMond, led to a highlight worthy behind the back goal by DuMond to close the half which put the Bears up 10-4 at the break. Credit South Forsyth for clawing back into the game.

During the 3rd quarter, the Bears defense supported by Senior Goalie, Cole Winsness, were pivotal to holding back the rival War Eagles.   Winsness had several timely stops and continued his effective management of the ball during defensive clears giving the offense enough possessions to hold the lead heading into the final quarter.   A game defining play with under five minutes left was a turnover caused by Senior defensive stalwart, Ryan Sadighian, including a deftly handled ground ball which was a key play that stabilized the threat and ensured the offense would put distance between its competitor.  Credit Sophomore, Evan Finelli, for battling and winning several key face offs during the pivotal final quarter to help hold ball possession.

Key second half goals by Shiffman and Ian Dexter, who joined DuMond and Darnell with three goals scored during the game, ensured the Bear's victory who now stand 2-0 in Area play and 3-3 on the season.

Another great team win for the Boys Varsity Team!
