Boys Lacrosse Wins Thriller Over Milton to Secure Playoff Spot

Boys Lacrosse Wins Thriller Over Milton to Secure Playoff Spot

In the regular season finale against our cross-town rivals on Friday, April 28th, the Bears came from behind to beat the Eagles by a score of 10-9.  The victory means that Cambridge finished the season tied for 2nd place in 6A/7A Area 5.  The head to head loss earlier in the season against West Forsyth drops the Bears into the 3 seed for playoffs.

It was clean and hard fought game, with neither team committing a single penalty.  The crowd was intense and the atmosphere was electric as both the Bears and Eagles refused to allow their opponent to ever get out of striking distance.

With under 3 minutes to play and the Eagles holding a 9-8 lead, Senior Defenseman Eric Drucker was able to force a turnover which led to a goal by Freshman Zach Shiffman down at the other end for the Bears.  With the score now tied at 9, the Eagles had an opportunity to take the lead, but a big hit by Junior Defenseman Ryan Sadighian jarred the ball loose and the Bears were able to come away with possession.

After a timeout Cambridge put the ball in Junior Attackman Jake Meyerholt's stick and with a spectacular individual effort, Meyerholt was able to give the Bears a 10-9 lead with only 40 seconds to play. Senior Goalie Ben Clark and Junior Defenseman Nick Ganem stifled Milton's last ditch effort to tie the game up and Junior Attackman Austin Darnell was able to possess the ball until the clock reached its' final tick.

As has been the norm for this season, the Bears scoring was balanced, with Shiffman and Meyerholt each netting two goals, while 6 other Bears each chipped in one apiece.

The Bears will travel to Brookwood on Wednesday May 3rd to take on the Broncos in the opening round of the 6A/7A playoffs...game time is 7:30pm

Go Bears!
