Bears JV Boys Lacrosse Defeat Alpharetta, Westminster, Fall to Lambert

Cambridge JV-9, Alpharetta JV-3  March 6th

The Bears JV Men's Lacrosse had little difficulty against the Alpharetta Raiders, winning 9-3.

The Bears scored early, with two goals  in the first quarter, and led at the half 4-1.  The Raiders came out strong in the third quarter scoring two quick goals to bring them within one.  By the end of the third however, the Bears had regrouped, scoring two more goals for a 6-3 lead entering the final quarter.

The Bears Defense, led by Will Covington, Ryan Sadighian, RJ Dykes and goalies Andrew Horton and Cole Winsness, kept Alpharetta scoreless in the 4th for the win. Scoring was shared by several Bears, including Austin Darnell, Jack Oldham, Jake Meyerholt, Brendan Pellegrino, Bennett Ferguson, Blake Kollin, Zach Furr and Tyler Wald.  Several players assisted on goals, including Darnell, Oldham, Meyerholt, Leadingham, Pellegrino and Furr.  Will Covington and RJ Dykes each had a couple take-aways, keeping the ball in the Bears sticks.

The Ground Ball battle was won by the Bears, led by Wald and Pellegrino, and Wald won the face-off battle on this night.

Great win against our cross-town rivals!  Next matchup vs the always tough Greater Atlanta Christian.

Cambridge JV-4, Westminster JV-3  March 5th

Bears JV Men's lacrosse won a thriller against the Westminster Wildcats on a windy, freezing cold night in Bear Country.

The game proved to be a great matchup with the teams trading scoring, ground balls, take-aways and turnovers throughout the contest.   Bears led at half 3-1 but the Wildcats came out strong, scoring the only goal in the third quarter.  The Wildcats then scored first in the 4th, tying the game at 3-3.

As the temperature dropped and players got colder, the game became more challenging as both teams struggled to get their offenses going.  Time was ticking away and it looked like this matchup was headed into overtime when Jake Meyerholt found Zach Furr open for a shot and Furr scored the go-ahead and winning goal with 3:00 left on the clock!  BEARS WIN 4-3!

Sharing scores with Furr were Meyerholt, Chase Vassel, Tyler Wald and Colin Sanders.  Ground balls were controlled by multiple players, led by Tyler Wald, Brendan Pellegrino and Will Covington.  Andrew Horton had 11 of 14 saves in goal for a GREAT defensive effort in the terrible winter-like conditions!

Great win for the JV Bears!!  Next up-Alpharetta!

Lambert JV-13, Cambridge JV-3  March 3rd

The Cambridge Bears Men's JV traveled to Lambert to face an older and very tough opponent.

Bears kept it close initially, only down 4-2 at the half.  Lambert took control of the game in the second half, scoring 7 goals in the third and 2 in the 4th, allowing only one for the Bears, for a final score of 13-3, Lambert.

The Lambert attack and middies proved too quick and accurate for the Bears Defense and goalie Andrew Horton.  Bears fought fought hard until the end.  Tyler Wald faced a very tough opponent at face-off allowing Lambert to maintain control of possession.

The Bears won the ground ball battle but Lambert would not allow them to capitalize.  Tough loss against a tough opponent.  Next game vs Westminster at Home.
