Bears Varsity Boys Lacrosse Win over Cherokee 11-4

The Cambridge Bears men's varsity lacrosse team was on the road Wednesday night March 20th, traveling to Cherokee High School to face the Warriors.  Fresh off their win over Creekview on Tuesday, the Bears upped their record to 6-2 with the 11-4 win over the Warriors.   The Bears attacked the Warrior zone defense all night, finding the hole and scoring – led by Jake Leddy who had 6 assists and one goal.

The Bears came out of the gate ready for action.  On a fast break set in motion by Alex Sichynsky, Cambridge got the ball to attackman Jake Leddy, who hit Carson Smith in front of the crease for the easy goal just 15 seconds into the game.  The Bears stick skills were again sharp in the first as Brendan Fahey picked off a clearing pass by the Warrior goalie and promptly put the ball in the net to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.  Kevin Ray also connected, followed shortly by a Cherokee goal scored on a Cambridge penalty.

Cherokee pushed back hard after the break, turning their offense on high – ripping in a shot from outside to start the 2nd quarter.  Two more Warrior outside burners hit the back of the net against an unsettled Bear defense, putting both teams all even with 4.  But that was where the Warrior offense ran dry – they were unable to score again as the Cambridge defense turned it on.  Back on offense, the Bears were led by Leddy --  feeding twice more to Fahey and once again to Smith.  Nathan Kish added one unassisted, giving the Bears the 7-4 lead at the half.

The second half was all Cambridge.  Leddy fed Sam Burrafato twice and scored his own goal in the fourth quarter.  The Bear defense once again dominated their half of the field, riding the Warriors well throughout the game.  Tate Prezzano was a machine in front of the crease, aiding Freshman Croix Martini's solid performance in the cage.  Cambridge finished it 11-4.
