Bears Varsity Boys Lacrosse Over Gainesville 8-1

Bears Varsity Boys Lacrosse Over Gainesville 8-1

The Cambridge Bears men's varsity lacrosse team hosted the Gainesville Elephants on a cold Tuesday night under the lights at CHS.  It was an uncharacteristically rough and physical game – and one the Bears dominated on every front.

Senior Ryan Callahan – again – was strong on face offs for the Bears – winning all but a few the entire game.   Freshman Nick Herrick put in a solid performance as a long stick middie – scooping up the ground balls Callahan managed from the face and setting the Cambridge offense in motion.  And the Bears were in motion -- shooting fast and furious in the first quarter, with Sophomores Carson Smith and Jake Leddy scoring and Senior Lauren DeLaPerriere punching in another off an assist.   The shooting frenzy continued in the second with eight different Bears taking shots on goal.  The Bear Defense held strong against a physical Gainesville team.  Defenseman Tate Prezzano had a clean take away and clear midway through the second to set up the DeLaPerriere assist to Freshman Jaime Wilkins' goal – giving the Bears a 6-0 lead at the half.

Tensions continued to run high in the second half – with both teams committing too many unnecessary roughness penalties.  Even so, Cambridge continued to crush the Elephants – and controlled the game by dominating time of possession.  Defense was tight in the third, but the Bears still managed to put one in the net – Sophomore Alex Sichynsky connected with a lefty bouncer with 6:50 remaining.  Smith added another late in the fourth -- completing his second hat trick of the season.

The Cambridge defense posted another solid performance, led by Sophomores Raleigh Cassada, Josh Kania and Prezzano.  Goalie Aaron Contreras was once again a wall in the cage – limiting Gainesville to just one goal scored late in the second half.  The Bears came out on top – besting Gainesville 8-1 – after a brief delay with 30 seconds left  -- when the field lights shut off.
