Bears Varsity Boys Lacrosse Defeat Riverside Military

It was another cold night for the Cambridge Bears men's varsity lacrosse team and fans Thursday night at a home game against the Riverside Military Academy Eagles.  The Bears upped their record to 3-1 with the 10-3 win over Riverside.  The game played out very much like the CHS win over Gainesville High School on Tuesday, minus the heavy penalties committed by both teams.

The Bears dominated the Eagles on nearly every front.  The Ryan Callahan/Nick Herrick combination was strong on face offs, winning most and enabling the Cambridge offense to control time of possession.  The Bears were able to connect for 3 goals in the first quarter, with Middie Brendan Fahey connecting twice and Sam Burrafato once off an assist by Jake Leddy

Cambridge continued to control the game in the second, putting the Eagles' goalie to the test.  He had some quality saves against the CHS shooting fest, limiting the Bears to 2 – both put in the net by Sophomore Carson Smith.  The Eagles managed to best Goalie Aaron Contreras just one in the first half, scoring off a Cambridge turnover with 4:10 left in the half.

The first minute of the second half saw CHS's Alex Sichynsky scoring unassisted from outside.  Riverside's defense then stepped it up in the third, and that, coupled with another solid quarter by the Eagle goalie, limited the Bears to just one more goal – netted by Smith.  A Riverside fast break put the Eagles in scoring position, connecting with just 5:10 left in the third.

The Bears moved the ball well on both sides of the field.  Passing was cleaner, and clears and ground balls more successful.   With under a minute played in the fourth, Middie Nathan Kish fed Burrafato on the crease for the score.  And the one-two punch of Leddy to Smith and then Smith to Leddy netted the Bears two more.

The Bear Defense was once again solid, frustrating the Eagles' offense.  Freshman Croix Martini relieved Contreras in the fourth quarter and put in a solid performance in the cage, holding the Eagles to 2.
