Bears Varsity Boys Lacrosse Fall to North Springs 7-4

Bears Varsity Boys Lacrosse Fall to North Springs 7-4

The Cambridge Bears men's varsity lacrosse team was on the road Thursday night, suffering its first loss against a tough North Springs' team.  The Spartans beat the Bears, 7-4.

The Bears came out fighting, with Senior Ryan Callahan winning the first face off for Cambridge.  The first five minutes of the game was a back and forth chess match, until a Cambridge penalty left a Bears man down, and a tough clear left the goal open for an easy score for the Spartans.  North Springs added two more goals – one from outside and another right down the middle.  Sophomore Carson Smith scored for CHS with a nice dodge from behind the goal with just a minute and a half left in the quarter.  Goalie Aaron Contreras made some great saves, limiting the Spartans to just 3.

The chess match continued through the second quarter.  Several Cambridge players were able to take shots on goal, but only Freshman Jaime Wilkins was able to put the ball in the net.  Penalties and turnovers hurt the Bears, but Contreras remained solid in the cage – shutting the Spartans out until the last 10 seconds of the half, when North Springs scored on a fast break off a Cambridge turn over.  Even though North Springs led at the half 4-2, it was still anybody's game.

The third and fourth quarters played much like the second.  Cambridge had nine man up chances in the game but were unable to convert.  In the fourth quarter, Senior Lauren DeLaPerriere connected with an outside shot fed by Wilkins to bring the Bears within 3.  A series of Cambridge turn overs gave the Spartans another scoring opportunity with a strong shot from outside.  Sophomore Sam Burrafato was able to connect with his own outside shot, ripping one from top center with two and a half minutes left in the game.  Contreras stayed strong in the cage in the second half.  It was a hard fought loss for the Bears.

The men's varsity team is on the road Tuesday, February 26 at 7:00 pm, traveling to Gainesville.

Both Varsity and JV teams play on Thursday, February 28 as the varsity will host Riverside Military Academy at 5:55 p.m., and JV will face Walker home at 7:30 p.m.

Come out and support your Bears!
