Bears Boys Golf Team Wins Area Championship; Advances to State Tournament

The Cambridge Varsity Boys Golf team captured 1st Place in its first Area 3-AAAAAA Championship tournament at Woodmont Country Club on Tuesday, May 2nd.

The competition consisted of eleven area schools including the defending 2016 AAAAAA Champions, Johns Creek, and concluded with an exciting two-hole playoff. 

Cambridge and Johns Creek each finished regulation play with four person team scores of 302.  Cambridge was lead by Brad Plaziak – 72; Blake Kollin – 75; Ryan Demit – 75; Blake Farbman – 80; Matthew Leemann – 82; and Robbie Bentley – 82.  All six players from both teams competed in the two-hole playoff.  

On the first hole Cambridge recorded four pars and two birdies from Plaziak and Leemann.  The second hole win resulted from a dramatic eagle from Robbie Bentley and two more birdies from Plaziak and Leemann.  It was a great team effort to get into the playoff and then close the win.  

Individual low tournament scores: Brad Plaziak (72) placed 2nd and Blake Kollin (75) and Ryan Demit (75) tied for 5th place.

The  win advanced the Varsity Boys Golf team to the High School State Championship which will take place May 22-23rd at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, GA.
