Cambridge Varsity Boys Basketball Wins Holiday Tournament
The Cambridge boys' basketball team finished 2017 strong by winning the Shane's Rib Shack Holiday Tournament in Kathleen, Georgia.

Coach Flemmer said, "The team played very well and showed a lot of resiliency in the tournament.  There were some very athletic and talented teams in the tournament and our guys did a great job battling."

Cambridge opened the tournament by defeating Crisp County on Thursday, December 21st by a score of 76-71.  The following day the Bears played Clarke Central in an epic battle that last three overtimes before Cambridge pulled away for an 86-80 win.

Coach Flemmer said that, "The Clark Central team is extremely talented, athletic and they get after it on the defensive end the entire game. This win was really big for our guys. The game felt a lot like a state playoff battle and this was a great showing for our guys in that we found a way to win."

The key players performed exceptionally well during the tournament.  Bryce Boutelle, Kyler Ingram, David Banks and Kamar Robertson all took care of the majority of the scoring.  Noah Lucas brought energy and played reallywell on the defensive end for our team.  Freshman Matthew Cleveland continued to show his value to the Bears throughout the tournament. The team also had a strong performance in the championship game by Caleb Lucas scoring 15 points."

The Bears beat Rutland in the championship game 78-62.  The team finished off 2017 with a 12-1 record overall and a 6-0 mark in region play.

This is the 6th year of the program and the first time they have ever won a tournament. This is another great accomplishment for a talented group of young men.

"We are trying not to look beyond our next game and focused on keeping the 1-0 mentality that we've been preaching all season. It's enough to worry about your next opponent--we are trying not to get caught-up in looking ahead," Coach Flemmer added.
