Cambridge Basketball Teams Host Forsyth Central Friday, January 8th

School is back in session and so are your Cambridge basketball teams as they are back in action Friday, January 8.  Be sure to come early to the gym, starting at 4:30pm, as all five teams are hosting Forsyth Central.

It was a busy holiday season for the varsity teams who competed at Mary Persons High School for a Christmas tournament.   Head Coach Chip Flemmer says the varsity boys are excited to get into the heart of the region schedule.  "The team has won four of their last five games and came home from the Mary Persons Tournament with a 3rd place trophy.  The team is working hard each day to improve. The guys needed to see some success.  They've been working incredibly hard, and it's nice to see their efforts rewarded with a few victories in very tight games," says Flemmer.

Lady Bears Varsity Coach Lesley Broadwell is also looking forward to moving back into region play. "The girls are giving great effort, and we are fortunate to have multiple players who can step up for us. We are learning that it takes every single member of our team being energy-givers daily in order for us to be successful. Everyone brings value - just in different ways, and I think that will carry us throughout the second half of our season." says Broadwell.

The junior varsity girls are enjoying a great season with an undefeated record in the region at 4-0 and and an overall record of 5-1.   Coach Katie Johnson has been impressed with the improvement of the team.  "The girls have worked hard over the last few months to prepare for the season, and it has been reflected consistently by their level of play. This team is more aggressive and has a more competitive edge than teams in the past, and it has been fun to see them improve each week," says Johnson.

The junior varsity boys basketball team is 5-1. Coach Peter Vajda says the team is coming off a convincing performance this past Tuesday over North Springs, winning 63-34.  "The team has been led by sophomore point guard JM Ezell and the super freshman trio of Bryce Boutelle, Jack Filan, and Caleb Lucas. Others playing key roles on the team include, sophomores; Chris Anderson, Blake Kollin and Brett Kuehn," says Vajda.

The freshman boys has also had an exciting start to the 2015-2016 season, which included a come from behind victory in double overtime in its first home game. The team is captained  by CJ Thompson and David Kramer.  Coach Brandon Smith says this team is exciting to watch with many good outside shooters and great hustle inside. "We look forward to a successful 2016 from the Cambridge 9th Grade Basketball team," says Smith.

Also on Friday night, the Cambridge Junior Bears will be recognized at half time of both varsity games.   We are pleased to announce this year's sponsor of the event is Dunn Rights Sports.
