Cambridge Hoops Wraps Up Year Two

Cambridge Hoops Wraps Up Year Two

The Bears finished year two with a 9-16 record, tripling their win total from year one.  The team made some great strides forward.  "The difference between year one and year two is this year we feel like we can compete against anybody in the region," Coach Flemmer said.  "It is nice to go into every game knowing that you have a good chance of coming out of the gym with a win.  I am pleased with our progress, but in no way complacent.  We plan to work really hard this off-season to make year three even better.  We need to use this year as another building block to help us take the next step forward."

Coach Flemmer says the team used the motto, "This Ain't Last Year" which was very fitting.  The expectations this year were higher and the team elevated their level of play.  "I feel our greatest gain this year was on the defensive end.  We made it a point to focus on defense.  Our inaugural season we gave up 65 points per game while only scoring 48 points per game.  This year we allowed 59 points per game (tied for the second best in the region and only one point behind the leader) while improving our scoring to 57 points per game. In other words instead of an average game being a 17 point loss this year, it was a 2 point loss.  We are determined to continue to improve as a team on both offense and defense."

The Bears were led this season by Jordan Sloter, Emerson McClung, Hunter Knocke, Chancellor Anderson, Neill Christian and Felix Sams.   The team had experienced contributors returning to the court in Nithin Balaji, Zach Freiburg, Brawley Thomas and Carson Hollingsworth, which was very nice in helping the Bears with continuity.  Seniors Leland Dunwoodie joined the squad from Michigan and proved to be a valuable asset for the Bears, along with Grayson transfer, Mark Phillipps, who provided the Bears with a big post presence.  The Bears brought up sophomore Marcus Kennedy who hit the ground running and played very well at the varsity level.

Honors: Jordan Sloter (JR) named 2nd team All-Region, while Emerson McClung (JR) and Hunter Knocke (SR) were named Honorable Mention All-Region.

Big thank you's to the coaching staff of Paul Supik, Miles Martin, Tom Best and Felix Richardson.

Go Bears!
