Cambridge Basketball in Full Swing Tonight, Jan. 11

Be sure to come out and support your Cambridge Bears as the boys' and girls' teams play tonight at both Cambridge and Riverwood Charter School in Sandy Springs.

Here's the schedule:
At Cambridge:    JV Boys             4:30 p.m.
                         Freshman Boys  6:00 p.m.

At Riverwood:     JV Girls         4:15 p.m.
                            Varsity Girls   5:30 p.m.
                            Varsity Boys  7:00 p.m.

Earlier this week, Cambridge made history yet again as both the JV girls and Freshman boys earned their first-ever victory.  The boys' team beat North Springs in a very close contest winning 34-32. The JV girls also battled with the Spartans, winning 33-20.  JV Coach Katie Johnson: "I was pleased to see the girls come together and pull out a win. "  Varsity Coach Lesley Broadwell was also extremely pleased with the team.  "I am so proud of the JV girls for continuing to work together to improve and am glad to see them rewarded with a positive outcome."

The varsity girls team stepped right in and followed up the evening with another win, making it the 3rd win in the last 4 games with the only loss coming in overtime to Lakeside-Dekalb.  Coach Broadwell says picking up a region win is a definite positive.  "I was pleased with our offensive rebounding and finishing better around the basket.  Those are two areas we have been emphasizing.  We again had very balanced scoring- Ali LoPiccolo had 12 points, Lauren Stewart 11, Robyn Gordon 8, Sabrina Powell 7, and Amelia Phillips 6.  What we took away from the game that we still need to get better at is defensive rebounding from all 5 positions on the court with everyone boxing out and with our decision-making in transition opportunities.  We do not want to get satisfied with a performance just because we win-we are striving to get better every day in this process."

The varsity girls had taken the court as the JV boys wrapped up another win beating North Springs 48-32. Sophomore Emerson McClung had a double-double with 21 pts and 11 rebounds, while freshman Michael Leeman had 9pts and 5 assists.  JV Coach Miles Martin:  "This was a great team victory as we had 7 of our 10 player score points."

The varsity boys fell to North Springs 53-40.  The Bears were led by Jordan Sloter's 19 points followed by 11 points from Felix Sams.  The Bears were neck and neck with the Spartans in the first half; however, North Springs pulled away in the second half to secure the victory.

Be sure to support the Bears tonight.  Again, freshman and JV boys begin at 4:30 p.m. at Cambridge, while the JV girls, varsity girls and varsity boys tip off at 4:15 p.m. at Riverwood in Sandy Springs.

Go Bears!
