Cambridge Gym Bears Qualify as a Team for Georgia State Prelims

The Cambridge Gymnastics team, currently ranked 5th in the state, has qualified for the state preliminary meet for the second time in school history.

In addition to qualifying as a team, Coach Chambless is proud to announce that Cambridge has several gymnasts qualified for this meet with their individual performances.

Junior Jenna Hart and Freshman Kiplin Polk have qualified to compete All Around (all four events).  Freshmen Erin Huddle qualified for prelims on vault, bars and floor, Chloe Wheeler on bars and floor, and Annalise Stallworth on floor.

Gym Bears finish their regular season with a win at Lovett on Wednesday, March 21st

Cambridge traveled to Lovett to compete in their final regular season meet Wednesday, March 21st, easily winning over 9 other Metro teams including rival Milton.   Led by Wheeler, placing 2nd All Around, and Hart, placing 5th, the team finished their regular season strong.

Starting on beam, the team posted four of four routines without a fall. Freshman Gracie Counsell and Wheeler each scored an 8.5 for an overall tie for 4th place, followed by Huddle with an 8.2 and Hart with an 8.1.

Floor was next for Cambridge and Wheeler posted her state qualifying routine with a score of 9.1 which earned her 2nd place.  Counsell and Hart also performed routines contributing to the team score, with Evan Prange close behind.

Cambridge had their second best season team results on the vault.  Huddle placed 2nd on the vault with 8.7, followed by Wheeler with an 8.4 to tie for 4th place, and Haley Copeland (8.2) finished the Gym Bears third rotation.

Bars were up next, and Wheeler again put in another state qualifying routine.  Hart led the team with an 9.0 to tie for 2nd place, with Wheeler scoring an 8.9 (4th place) and Huddle an 8.7.

Coach Chambless congratulates this team for all of their hard work and team spirit.  "These girls work hard while working together as a team.  I am so happy with how far they have come together this season," Chambless commented after the current state wide results were posted this week. Results will be finalized on April 11th.

Please support the Cambridge Gym Bears at the state prelims to be held at Dunwoody High School on April 14th.  Of the 16 teams competing at prelims, 6 will advance to the state finals at Ola High School on April 20th.  The top 12 All Around and individual event competitors will also advance to the state finals.

Keep up the great work ladies! Go Gym Bears!
