Lady Bears Gymnasts Place 2nd at Roswell Invitational, Saturday, Feb. 24th

The Cambridge Varsity Gymnastics team placed 2nd out of 8 teams at the Roswell Invitational on Saturday, February 24th.  The Bears were edged out of first place by cross-town rival Milton by just over a point.  Still, the Gym Bears improved overall as a team and on individual athlete performances over last weeks team win over Milton and Roswell.

The Gym Bears were led by freshman Chloe Wheeler who posted an impressive 36.8 All Around score. Starting on the Floor Exercise, Cambridge was led by Annalise Stallworth with a 9.1, followed closely by Wheeler and Jenna Hart, both with 9.0 scores.  Following Olympic order, Vault was next for the Bears, and Wheeler, throwing a front handspring front tuck, stuck her landing and scored a meet high score of 9.7.   Freshman Erin Huddle and Junior Haley Copeland also vaulted well, posting scores to contribute to the team total.

The scoring on the Bars was tough this meet, resulting in lower scores overall for all gymnasts.  Even so, Wheeler, Hart and Huddle threw solid routines.  The Balance Beam gave the Bears some trouble last week at Milton.  CHS was still a little shaky on the Beam on Saturday.  Even so, the team improved it's event score by over a point.  Wheeler and Hart led Cambridge on this event.

Coach Chambless is very excited about the Gym Bears and their determination and effort that is given at each practice and meet. She looks forward to seeing the team compete at Etowah High School this Friday evening at 6:45 p.m. and continuing success of the season.

Come out and support the Gym Bears!
