Title: Cambridge Football Head Coach

Cambridge High School announces Coach Tyler Jones as its new Head Football Coach. Coach Jones comes to Cambridge from Walton High School in Marietta, GA where he served as the offensive coordinator for the 2023 AAAAAAA State Runner-Up Raiders. Prior to his two-year stint at Walton, Coach Jones worked at River Ridge High School for 3 years, and Wheeler High School for 5 years under current River Ridge Head Coach Michael Collins. 

Coach Collins states, “Coach Tyler Jones is one of the most talented individuals I’ve worked with. Not only does he have an innovative mind when it comes to scheming football, but he also has an incredible ability to effectively communicate with players and parents. He is a high-level motivator that will help any program reach its full potential.” 

Walton High School Head Football Coach Daniel Brunner adds, “Coach Tyler Jones is one of the greatest offensive minds in the state! He’s a great man that values family and believes in what football can do for young people and communities. He has a great vision for the Cambridge football program and will be a great success!” 

Coach Jones has taught and coached for 11 years and has been part of record setting offenses at each stop. In 2 seasons at Walton, Coach Jones’ offenses averaged 42.4 ppg and 451 yards per game amassing an overall record of 24-4. The 2023 State Runner-Up Raiders were 14-1, averaged 47.7ppg, (the most in 7A history) and 450 yards per game. In addition to his O.C. role, Coach Jones also served as the quarterbacks coach for All-American QB, Jeremy Hecklinski. Prior to his tenure at Walton, Coach Jones served as the offensive coordinator at River Ridge High School from 2019-2021 and was an integral part of turning a perennially struggling program into a contender, earning the school’s first Region Championship and a State AAAAAA Quarterfinal playoff run. The Knights set every offensive record during Coach Jones time at River Ridge, including a Top 10 offense (34ppg) and yards per game (402ypg), a top 10 ranking in the state (AJC#6) and had the state’s leading rusher (1981 yds). Coach Jones’ tenure at Wheeler High School as quarterbacks/co-offensive coordinator included a record-breaking offense in 2018, averaging 36ppg and a Top 10 state ranking for the first time in 30 years for the school. 

A Georgia native, Coach Jones is a 2007 graduate of Social Circle High School, where he was a 3-sport athlete. He was a 2-time All-Region quarterback who led the Redskins to a Region Championship and the only state playoff appearance in the school’s 47-year history. He attended the University of Georgia where he majored in Health & Physical Education. Coach Jones lives in Roswell with his beautiful wife, Whitney, and daughter, Barrett (5) and son, Braden, (2). Coach Jones will be teaching in the Health/PE Department at Cambridge.
