MILTON, GA – Phillip Michael Collins ran for 132 yards and three touchdowns, and Ridge Polk caught two touchdown passes to propel Cambridge to a 40-21 win against Northview, Friday, October 5th.
"Collins is also getting better with experience each and every week," said head coach Craig Bennett. "And Ridge, who we know has that playmaking ability, is really getting closer to 100% and it helps."
The win is the second in a row for the Bears (3-4, 3-2 Region 7-6A) and third straight against Northview (4-3, 3-2 Region 7-6A). The Bears moved up to fifth in region play and continue to keep playoff hopes alive.
Bennett was impressed with the number of players that stepped up to contribute to the win. "On one drive alone, we had three wide receivers have really big catches, Collins with a good run, and Harris with some really good throws," said Bennett. "Defensively, we had a tremendous amount of hustle, which creates plays like interceptions and sacks."
After exchanging a pair of touchdowns, Josh Bodunrin stepped in front of slant route and ran 39 yards all the way to the end zone. The play triggered 20 straight points from the Bears, and Northview never found a way back into the game. "He [Bodunrin] is such a smart player and also a good athlete," said Bennett. "For us to have a positive turnover ratio, with a defensive score, really changed the tide for us."
The Cambridge offense used an extremely balanced attack to rack up points and yardage against the Titans. Phillip Michael Collins led the charge by reaching 132 yards on only 25 carries.
Ridge Polk put together his most complete game of the season with 101 yards from scrimmage including six catches for 87 yards. On Polk's second touchdown, senior left tackle Kasra Bojnordi pulled all the way across the formation to seal off the end and allowed Polk to easily coast into the end zone. "We preached consistency all week at practice," said Bennett. "The offensive line is playing well and responding to situations better."
Zach Harris played his best game of the season, completing 12-of-18 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Harris kept the Cambridge offense away from turnovers all game and provided a key 34-yard run on third and short late in the game.
Kyle Romano led the team with 8.5 total tackles, and Daniel Graham recorded two sacks.
The Bear defense held the Titans to 2-of-10 on third down and 0-of-4 on fourth down. These stops on critical plays kept Cambridge comfortably ahead. Up against such an explosive offense, the Bears only gave up two plays of 20-plus yardss
The Bears will face Johns Creek in a pink-out on Homecoming night this Friday, October 12th. The Gladiators are currently first in the region. "They are extremely talented on offense with playmakers at every skill position," said Bennett. "We have to stop big plays."
The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
