On Friday, October 6th, Dunwoody traveled to Cambridge for an important region showdown. In a game of explosive plays, the Bears came out on top winning 38-16. Cambridge improved to 2-5 (2-3 Region) with the victory.
The Bears jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a 33-yard touchdown from Matt McCree. The momentum continued as the Bears carried a 21-3 lead into halftime. Hogan Dykes accounted for the other two touchdowns, one to Ridge Polk and another to Evan Kuykendall.
The second half featured back and forth scoring. Dunwoody broke off two 50-plus yard touchdown passes, but the Bears countered with a touchdown run by Tyler Wald and a 26-yard touchdown pass to McCree from Kuykendall. The Bears coasted to the 38-16 final, reeling in their second straight win. Bennett said of the win, "Obviously any win is a good win, but to win right now is big. It helps with confidence, and understanding all the work we put in is paying off".
Hogan Dykes engineered one of the offense's best games of the season. Dykes completed 16 of 18 passes for 248 yards and 2 scores. Once again, Dykes targeted Ridge Polk the most. Polk brought in 7 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown. McCree averaged nearly 7.5 yards a carry and put up 97 yards on the ground. The 38 points is the offense's highest total of the season.
On defense, Ridge Polk led the way with 7 tackles and an interception. James Poinsette followed closely behind with 6 tackles from his linebacker position. "We played really good at times, just have to find more consistency in overall play," said Bennett. "We have to come out stronger in the second half and put teams away".
The Bears will travel to Northview this Friday, October 13th. Northview features a strong front seven, and the Bears hope to come in prepared with a solid week of practice. "I want them to do it better than they have ever done it," Bennett stated about his team at practice. Bennett is proud of the resiliency of his team and the way they have come together this year.
The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
