Cambridge Varsity Football Shuts Out Chapel Hill 28-0, Friday, August 28th

Bear fans, on Friday night 8/28/15 our Region 7AAAAA Bears went to battle against the Region 5AAAAA Chapel Hill Panthers in non-league play at Cambridge Stadium.  The Bears shut out the Panthers by a 28-0 score, improving their record to 2-0 on the season.  Both wins were shut out victories.  The Panthers fall to 0-1 on the season.

The week 1 victory proved to be an excellent tune-up for the Bears as they clicked in all aspects of the game.  Offensively, the Bears displayed great offensive line play to pave the way for outstanding junior running back Kaelin Byrd, who had a breakout performance contributing 150 yards on 22 carries and 2 touchdowns.  Senior Eric Cizek also had 2 touchdowns rushing.

All four PATs were successful by kicker Victor Valentine.  For the night the Bears produced 314 all-purpose yards with Senior JD White contributing 49 yards and sophomore receiver Spencer Gaddis adding 50 yards.

Defensively, the Bears had 47 tackles (solo and assisted) led by seniors Trey Wolfe, Eric Cizek and Chase Darnell (13, 7 and 5 respectably).  Eric Cizek and junior Will Britain each had sacks.  Panther drives were halted on 3 occasions due to Bear interceptions by seniors Erik Cizek, Connor Esposito and Nathan Kish.

The Bears have an open week and will not play Friday 9/4/15.

Up next for the Bears will be the Rome Wolves in a home game at Bear Stadium Friday 9/11/15.  The region 7-AAAAA Wolves have a 1-0 record after their 48-44 win over Villa Rica on 8/21/15.

Go Bears!
