Cambridge Freshman Football Dominate Creekview 52-6 Thursday, Oct. 9th

After the opening kickoff, the Bears put together a long drive down the field with a good mix of passes and runs.  Much of the clock was exhausted and the drive ended with a touchdown by the Bears #21 (Lavantay Glover).  The point after by #17 (Victor Valentine) was good and the Bears had an early lead of 7-0 at the 5:28 mark of the 1st quarter.

The Grizzlies first possession proved that the evening might be a long one as the Bears showed strong defense.  The Grizzlies initial drive stalled.  On the next Bears possession, it was much of the same, strong running and a grind it out drive that put them into scoring position again.  A touchdown run by #10 (Will Covington) on a 1st and goal play put the Bears up 13-0 and the PAT was good with 3:17 left in the 1st quarter.  14-0 Bears!

A strong defense led by #52 (Walker Peed) and another long deliberate drive by the Bears brought the quarter to an end.  The Bears added to their total with a touchdown run by #9 (Khiri Jenkins) followed by a successful PAT making the score 21-0 with 8:12 left in the 2nd quarter.

The game was halted for an hour due to lightning in the area.  The stoppage came with 4:30 left in the quarter. Once the players were allowed back on the field, it was more of the same as the Bears dominated.  A long touchdown run by #44 (Tyler Wald) and a successful PAT put the Bears up 28-0.

The Grizzlies managed to get on the scoreboard with a TD run by #27.  The PAT was missed.  Score 28-6.  Another long run by Lavantay Glover to the Grizzlies 2 yard line set up a score by quarterback #14 (Evan Kuykendall).  After the PAT, the bears led 35-6 at halftime.

Offenses stalled by both teams to start the 2nd half, but the Bears broke through with a field goal by Victor Valentine to increase the lead to 38-6.  The rest of the game was punctuated by a couple more touchdowns by Lavantay Glover and Khiri Jenkins.  There was a fumble recovery by #12 (Darrion Chapman) setting up the Bears last score.

A highlight that got the players and fans excited near the end of the game included rushes by lineman # 52 (Walker Peed) and lineman #50 (Deporess Schletty).

Final score Bears 52, Grizzlies 6.

Next up, the Bears host Kell, Thursday, Oct. 16th at 6:00pm.

Go Bears!
