Cambridge Football Rolls over Chapel Hill 42-12 Friday, August 29th

For those fans who weren't able to make the long drive to Douglasville, the game recap starts with the score Cambridge-42, Chapel Hill-12.

The next recounting of the game has to be the impressive lead off back-to-back tackles by Junior, Trey Wolfe.  Trey had an impressive game overall and was supported by seniors Josh Kania and Craig Carter with outstanding defense. Carter made a good read and stopped the Chapel Hill punt fake play. Chapel Hill was stymied most of the first quarter by this trio of athletes.

Offensively, the Bears dominated.  Several fine pass plays from Quarterback, Brian Moore to the sure-handed receiver John Hurst, for consecutive first downs, set up the scramble touchdown for Moore.  PAT by place-kicker Clayton Hammer made the score 7-0.  Chapel Hill put 6 points on the board but missed their point after try.  Other first quarter highlight plays included an 80 yard kickoff return by the exceptional JD White.  A long cross-field pass from Moore to Hurst for a 5 yards and the touchdown made it 14-6.

A surprise on-side kick by Hammer was recovered by the alert sophomore standout, Kaelyn Bird.  Further creative offensive coaching efforts thrilled the crowd with a perfectly executed halfback option play,  Moore to Hurst who then threw a beauty of a pass to Hunter Smith who carried it in for the touchdown. Lots of excitement for the loyal Bears fans.

With the score 21-6, the Bears continued with stellar defense and a sack by the fired up 11th grader, Michael Pellegrino.   Chapel Hill who sensed the exigency to score as the game slipped away threw a deep pass only to be broken up by a well-timed leap by senior Tate Prezzano.  The Bears continued to pull ahead with 2 touchdown plays by the versatile junior, Nathan Kish.

Flawless long snapping by Thomas Johnson set up all 6 points from PATs by Hammer and then Smith, who filled in the second half for the injured Hammer.   The remainder of the game gave the coaches some good looks at the depth of potential in the Bears team including a 25 yard reception by wide receiver, Spencer Gaddis and passes caught by Jake Gustafson and Kyle McDougall.  Moore's arm was looking very accurate throughout the game.

To cap off the game, the relentless Josh Kania, scored the final touchdown. With 2 solid wins to start the season, the Bears have a week off and resume play with their first region game at Rome High School on Friday, Sept. 12th.

Congratulations Bears!
