Bears Shut Out Forsyth Central 14-0 for 2nd Victory

Head Coach Craig Bennett was really pleased with the shutout in Friday night's game against Forsyth Central. He called out the defense for playing extremely well and said "if the other team doesn't score, they can't win and our defense gets that credit tonight."

The Cambridge Bears 14-0 Homecoming win over the Bulldogs started with a smashing tackle by linebacker Brock Neilson. Neilson had a notable game. Standout defense was also provided by sophomore linebacker Trey Wolfe who sacked the Bulldogs for a 6 yard loss.  The Bears were determined to win this game, and it showed early in their first scoring drive which started off with a 10 yard pass play by QB Brian Moore to running back JD White. That drive was followed by passes to Nathan Kish for 5 yards, again to White for 10 yards and from Moore to Christian Johnston for 15 yards. Moore wasn't done yet as he hit his favorite target, John Hurst, for 12 yards, added a QB keeper and then one final pass completion to Johnston for the touchdown. Extra point by Clayton Hammer was good. Bears held the lead 7-0. Bears defense held the Bulldogs scoreless from the Red Zone several times during the game.

In the second quarter, #10 Ryder Deaton made his presence known with some key tackles to stymie Forsyth Central in their attempts to score. Bears scored again with a drive that included a gorgeous 45 yard pass from Moore to John Hurst and then connected with Hunter Smith in the end zone for 6 more points. PAT by Hammer made the score 14-0. Some back and forth penalty calls resulted in a FC touchdown being called back and a failed field goal attempt by the Bulldogs kept the Bears in the lead at the half.

At halftime, the Cambridge Marching Band provided spirit and pomp to the homecoming court presentations.

The remainder of the game had a few stellar offensive plays and some exceptional defense by Josh Kania with good read and good pressure on the Bulldogs offense. Zeke Gormley finished off any hopes FC had of scoring in the final minute of the game with an interception and a run back of 15 yards. JD White made a 29 yard rushing play breaking tackles and showing his agility, but the score ended Bears 14-0 for their second win of the season.

Next up - Friday, Oct. 18, home game against Creekview is a pink-out in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
