Bears WIN Over North Springs, 45-13

Bears WIN Over North Springs, 45-13

A perfect Friday night under the lights could not have been scripted any better.  Great weather, richly deserved recognition of the marching band, the football seniors along with the generous school sponsors, homecoming court introductions, a huge turn out of fans and Cambridge blue crazies, and the Cambridge community coming together to give thousands of dollars to a Milton football coach who is battling cancer.  The football team stepped up and put the icing on the cake with its first win.  A final score of 45-13 places this incredible night front and center in the Cambridge High School memory book.

Senior quarterback Kevin Little completed a 25 yard pass to senior Ryan Callahan to make a statement the seniors were out to win their final home game.  Freshman JD White, stepped in big to support the effort with a 30 yard touchdown run, making it 7-0.  North Springs Spartans, although they had considerable individual talent, struggled to resist the Cambridge determination.  Defensively, sophomore cornerback, Brian Moore, who had another standout night with 7 key tackles and forced several pass play incompletions, was accompanied by sophomores Garrett Walton and Tate Prezzano and a solid defensive line which all helped stop the Spartans offense.

For the remainder of the game, the Seniors made their intentions known with some intense play by Callahan who contributed defensively as well as offensively.  He connected with a 15 yard pass play from QB Little, rushing for more than 10 yards yards and a touchdown.  Senior kicker, Hawk Hammer was flawless as he went 6 for 6 in PATs and a 39 yard field goal to add 9 points to the scoreboard.   Little completed passes for 45 yards and set up JD White to score 3 touchdowns.   Head Coach Bennett was extremely proud of his seniors. "They've been so important to what we started and why they came here and they've fought hard all the way along." Coach Bennett was pleased with the win, but even more proud of all his players for fighting hard and never giving up.

JD White racked up a total of 174 yards and 4 touchdowns.  One TD came on a 92 yard kickoff return. His rushing total was 72 yards.

The final touchdown was made on a 30 yard rush by Ricky Nuckles.

Players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members, administration and parents did not want to leave the field Friday night. It was a stadium filled with people, many of whom have worked tirelessly and could finally celebrate a night that everyone had hoped for since Cambridge first opened its doors this inaugural year.

"Friday night's victory was one of the most memorable wins in all my years in high school athletics!  It was incredible for the entire Cambridge community to share in the excitement of the first varsity football win.  I couldn't be more proud of Coach Bennett and his staff not only for the victory, but for being role models for our young men," said Principal Dr. Edward Spurka.

When the event finally came to an end, the people of Cambridge had raised $8,000.00 for Coach Mike Scott and his family. Spurka says Cambridge High School has created a strong sense of family that supports our community. "Since we have strong roots that stem from Milton High School, our hearts go out to the Scott family and the family at Milton HS.  We are here to show our support in times of need. "

Cambridge crowned its first ever Homecoming king and queen, Daniel Tuck and Casey Moore.

Another night in Cambridge history.

The final regular season game will be this Friday, Nov. 2, at Sequoyah High School, 4485 Hickory Road, in Canton.
