Bears Baseball Beats Dunwoody 11-1 Wednesday, April 17th; Secures Home Playoff Series
Cambridge entered the second to last game of the regular season against third place Dunwoody needing a win to clinch a playoff home series for the first time in school history, and that's exactly what they did Wednesday night.  The bats exploded out of the gate and Cambridge righty Casey Young took care of the rest in the 11-1 win, securing no less than a second place finish in region sporting a 12-3 record with a game to play.

Ryan Todd set the tone for the offense leading off the game.  He roped a single to left center and the race was on.  Ross Friedrick walked before both runners advanced via wild pitch.  Cody Rech drove in the first run of the game on a fielder's choice, and an error on the play scored another.  Rech addvanced to third on the play and came home on a Mitch Fleming sac fly.

Jackson Woods then doubled and moved to third on a Nicholas Armstrong infield hit.  Danny DeSousa kept things going with a double of his own, scoring Woods.  Todd came back up and drove in Armstrong and DeSousa with a line drive single to right and the half inning ended 6-0 in favor of the visitors.

Young allowed a couple of singles in the bottom of the inning and the score stood at 6-1 after one.  The Cambridge bats were not done, however.  Friedrick walked to lead off the inning and Rech walked as well.  Fleming hit an absolute laser to the wall in center for a double, driving in a run.  Jared Spears walked to load the bases and another walk to Woods pushed another run across.  Two wild pitches pushed two more across and the inning ended with a 10-1 Cambridge lead.

Young went 1-2-3 in the second with a couple of K's and tossed another scoreless inning in the third.  Cambridge added the final run of the day in the fourth.  Singles by Woods and DeSousa and a walk by Johnny Eneberg loaded the bases.  Todd drove in run number eleven with a ground out to first.

Young added a couple more strikeouts in a scoreless fourth, while Spears doubled but did not score in the fifth.  Young cruised through another scoreless fifth and the game ended there by run rule with an 11-1 Cambridge win.

The Bears offense accounted for eleven hits on the evening.  Todd, Woods and DeSousa all had a pair of hits.  Todd drove in three, while Woods scored three times.  DeSousa, Woods, Rech, Fleming and Spears all had doubles.  Young went the distance to earn his fifth win of the season.  He allowed four hits and struck out six.

Cambridge concludes the regular season with a game at two-time defending state champion Pope HS on Thursday, April 18th.  This game was moved up a day to avoid expected bad weather.  Cambridge enters the game with a 12-3 record in region, while Pope is a game back at 11-4.  The winner of this game will be region champion.  Cambridge is seeking its first ever region title, so come out and support the Bears!  Game time is 5:55 PM.
