Bears Varsity Baseball Powers Past Alpharetta to Remain Undefeated in Region Play, Wed., March 13th
The last two remaining undefeated teams in region play squared off on a beautiful night for baseball at Alpharetta HS Wednesday night, March 13th.  The Raiders sent out their UGA-bound senior lefty to the mound, while the Bears sent out junior righty Casey Young looking for his third win of the season.

Cambridge wasted little time generating some offense.  Ryan Todd led off the game with a single to center.  Ross Friedrick and Cody Rech then walked to load the bases for cleanup hitter Mitch Fleming.  And Fleming did what cleanup hitters are supposed to do by launching a towering home run to center for a grand slam and a 4-0 Cambridge lead before an out had even been recorded.

The Raiders lefty settled down after that, stranding a Nicholas Armstrong double to maintain the 4-0 margin.  Young struck out three batters in the first for the first of many scoreless innings by Cambridge pitchers on the night.  Neither team scored in the second, though Young worked around a walk and an error to strand a couple.

The Cambridge bats cooled a bit in innings three and four, while Young continued to put zeros on the board.  That changed in the fifth as Cody Rech barrelled up a ball for a home run to left, increasing the Cambridge lead to 5-0.  Young pitched another scoreless inning in the bottom of the fifth before leaving the game.

The Bears added another run in the sixth courtesy of a single by Johnny Eneberg and a double to left center by Todd.  Turner Rosenbaum replaced Young and threw an easy 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the inning, striking out all three batters he faced.  Nick Dato worked around a little trouble in the seventh, but stranded two while also striking out three to finish off the 6-0 victory.

Fleming had the huge grand slam to set the tone for the game, while Rech continued his scorching hot hitting streak with two more hits, including a home run.  Todd had two hits, continuing his strong performances in region play.  Armstrong had a double and Grayson Dato had a triple as well to help lead the offense.  Young got the win, going five innings and allowing no runs on one hit with seven strikeouts.

Cambridge plays next on Friday, March 15th at home against hot-hitting North Atlanta.  Game time is 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
