Cambridge Baseball Regains Winning Form in 7-4 Victory over Forsyth Central, Feb. 25
After a week full of postponed games, the Cambridge varsity baseball team finally got a chance to play game number four of the season at the all turf Lakepoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA. on Monday, Feb. 25th.  The opponent was Forsyth Central, a former region rival.  Cambridge played as the home team and sent Evan Pollifrone to the mound.  Pollifrone got the win in the season opener and looked to add another to the win column on a brisk Monday night.

Both pitchers got out of the gate strong, as Pollifrone breezed through two hitless innings and Cambridge could only manage a Ross Friedrick single in the second.  Pollifrone managed another scoreless third, allowing only a two-out single.

Cambridge opened up the scoring in the bottom of the third courtesy of a couple of hits.  Danny DeSousa lofted a one-out double down the left field line to get things started.  Jackson Woods then lined a single to left that drove in the first run of the game.  Woods stole second, then third before scoring on an errant throw by the Central catcher for a 2-0 Cambridge lead.

Jordan Payne entered for Pollifrone and stranded a couple of runners with the help of a nice double play by Matt Faby on a tag at third and throw to first.  The Bears added four more in the bottom of the fourth as the bats stayed red hot.  A Ross Friedrick walk and a Jared Spears single to left set the table, and Grayson Dato took it from there, lining a double to the wall in left center scoring both runners.

Dato later scored via error before DeSousa was driven in by a triple from Woods.  The throw on the play escaped the third baseman and Woods raced home for the final run of the inning and a 7-0 Cambridge lead.  Central battle back in the fifth, adding four runs on three hits to make the score 7-4.

But that was all the visitors would get as Johnny Eneberg and Michael Polk both tossed scoreless innings to close out the game and the second victory of the year for Cambridge.

Pollifrone worked three scoreless innings, allowing a hit with one strikeout to get the win.  Polk notched his first save of the season.  Jackson Woods led the offense with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored, including a triple.  Ryan Todd also had a triple, while Danny DeSousa and Grayson Dato had doubles.

Cambridge is scheduled to play its first home game of the season on Wednesday night against West Forsyth.  Game time is 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
