Cambridge treated their fans to a great game on Senior Night, April 18th, led by the power of seniors Andrew Spears and Justin Tanguay who each homered to lead the offense in a game that clinched the fourth consecutive playoff appearance for the baseball program.  Spears hit his first, while Tanguay launched his team-leading third in the victory.  Both teams entered the game with 8-6 records, tied for third in region play.

Dunwoody jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first against Cambridge starter Blake Renner.  That lead didn't last long as the Bears offense stormed back with four runs of its own.  Ryan Todd got on by error and Teddy Egan was hit by pitch.  Cody Rech then executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position.  Mitch Fleming later drove in both with a hard single to center.  Tanguay then launched a two-run home run into the trees in right for a 4-3 lead after one inning.

Dunwoody came right back in the second to retake the lead 6-4, courtesy of a sun-aided bases-clearing double.  Cambridge went quietly in the second and third, as did Dunwoody in the third.  The visitors added another run in the top of the fourth to increase their lead to 7-4.  Cambridge tied the game in the bottom of the inning.  Spears led off with a home run, sparking the rest of the offense to life.  Walks by Ross Friedrick and Chase Durham sandwiched a Connor Morris single.  Todd lofted a sacrifice fly to center to make the score 7-6 before Egan came through with a clutch single to right to tie the game.

Dunwoody added two more in the fifth when a routine ground ball to first skipped off the bag into right field driving in two runs and a 9-7 lead.  The rejuvenated Cambridge offense stayed hot in the bottom of the inning.  Fleming led off with a double.  Tanguay singled to drive in Fleming and Spears later walked.  Morris drove in the tying run when he reached by error, setting up a crucial moment.  Todd stepped to the plate with two outs and lined a single to right to give the Bears a 10-9 lead.

Kenny Rosenbloom moved to the mound in the sixth and promptly got the first out before running into a little trouble.  Casey Young entered the game and struck out the next two batters to escape further damage.  Cambridge went down in order in the bottom of the sixth, setting up the last chance for the visitors.  Young put a quick end to any thoughts of a rally by striking out the side in the seventh, preserving the 10-9 victory and another playoff berth.

Renner went five innings to earn the victory.  Young fanned all five batters he faced to earn his second save of the season.  Spears and Tanguay led the offense with a home run each.  Tanguay had three RBI, while Fleming had a double, single and two RBI.  Todd had two RBI, including the game-winner.

Cambridge finishes the regular season Friday night, April 20th with a game at home versus region-leading Pope HS.  Game time is 5:55 PM.
