Cambridge Baseball Stumbles at Northview with 6-1 Loss, Monday, April 16

Needing one win to clinch a fourth straight playoff berth for the Cambridge baseball program, the Bears hoped to accomplish that feat in the first of three games to be played this week, this one at Northview HS, Monday, April 16.

Cambridge had run-ruled the Titans earlier in the season, but that was not the case Monday as the home team rode a strong performance from its ace to turn the table with a 6-1 victory.  With the loss Cambridge now must win one of the next two games to guarantee a playoff spot.

Both teams threatened in the first to no avail.  Cambridge got two-out singles from Andrew Spears and Ross Friedrick in the second inning but both were left stranded.  Northview, however, loaded the bases in the bottom of the second off of Cambridge starter Evan Pollifrone with two outs and got a bases-clearing double to go up 3-0.  Another single made the score 4-0 after two.

The Titans pitcher cruised from there.  Northview added single runs in the third and sixth innings, while Cambridge finally broke through with a run of its own in the sixth.  Cody Rech singled and came around to score on a Justin Tanguay single and subsequent error by the Titans right fielder.  That would be all for the visitors as the Northview pitcher finished off a complete game.

Pollifrone went four innings, allowing five runs with three strikeouts to take the loss.  Friedrick and Rech led the offense with two hits each.

Cambridge resumes region play with a home game Wednesday versus Dunwoody.  Both teams are currently tied at 8-6 in region.  Wednesday is also Senior Night, so come out to celebrate the outgoing seniors.  Game time is 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
