Cambridge Baseball Loses Wild Game 10-9 to Alpharetta, Wednesday, April 11

In a game between local rivals to determine who would retain second place in region standings, Alpharetta stormed back from a 9-5 deficit to defeat Cambridge by a score of 10-9 Wednesday night, April 11th at Alpharetta HS.

The visiting Bears got off to a hot start, putting five runs on the board in the first.  Ryan Todd led off the game with a single to right center.  Teddy Egan followed up with a bunt single before Cody Rech was hit by pitch to load the bases.  Hot-hitting Mitch Fleming then launched a bases-clearing double to left center and a 3-0 lead.  Justin Tanguay singled in Fleming and later scored on a Connor Morris single to make the score 5-0.

Cambridge starter Jared Spears allowed a run on a hit and the score stood at 5-1 in favor of the visitors after one.  Neither team got anything going in innings two and three.  Alpharetta added a pair in the fourth courtesy of four hits and a walk.

Cambridge bounced right back in the fifth, pushing the score to 8-3.  Andrew Spears walked and scored on a Ross Friedrick double.  Chase Durham doubled him in and later scored on a Todd sacrifice fly.  Alpharetta tacked on two more in the bottom of the inning to make the score 8-5 after five.

Fleming tripled and scored on a Tanguay single to make the score 9-5.  But Alpharetta scored three in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap to a single run.  Cambridge went in order in the seventh, setting up a dramatic walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh on a 3-2, two out pitch from Cambridge reliever Casey Young for a 10-9 come-from-behind victory for Alpharetta.

Alpharetta remains in second place in the region with an 8-4 record, while Cambridge drops to 7-5 with four region games to play.

Young took the loss, going 1 2/3 innings allowing three runs with three strikeouts.  Tanguay led the offense with three hits and two RBI.  Fleming had two hits and three RBI.  Durham and Friedrick also had two hits.  Fleming had a triple and double, while Durham, Friedrick and Cody Rech each had doubles.

Cambridge resumes region play with a home game Friday, April 13th versus North Atlanta HS.  Game time is 5:55 PM.
