Cambridge hoped to get off to a good start as it kicked off the second half of region play and did just that with a convincing 8-2 victory at Centennial HS Wednesday night.  The Cambridge offense flexed its muscles while getting strong performances on the mound to set up the win.

Cambridge jumped on top in the first courtesy of a home run to left by sophomore Cody Rech, the first of his career.  Centennial tied the score in the bottom of the first off of starter Michael Polk.  The visitors came right back in the second with another home run, this one to right center by Justin Tanguay.

Up 2-1, the Bears offense added a couple more in the third.  Doubles by Teddy Egan and Mitch Fleming pushed the score to 4-1 driving in Chase Durham and Ryan Todd, respectively.  Polk continued to hold the Knights offense in check and the score remained at 4-1 after four.

The visitors put the finishing touches on the offense in inning five.  Singles by Durham and Todd preceded a two-run error on a ground ball by Rech to make the score 6-1.  Rech would later score by error before Andrew Spears drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly.

Sophomore Jared Spears entered the game in the bottom of the fifth, replacing Polk.  He worked three strong innings, allowing only an unearned run on three hits to earn his second save of the season as Cambridge closed out the 8-2 victory.

Polk went four strong to earn the win, allowing a run on four hits with four strikeouts.  Rech and Tanguay led the way on offense, each going yard.  Egan had two doubles and Fleming had a double and single to help pace the nine-hit attack.

Cambridge plays one final region game before spring break, playing at Johns Creek on Friday, March 30th.  Game time is 5:55 PM.
